But but but...if you do these stupid quests you can get battlemaster agent gear with lights on it!!!

OH, and the battlemaster bounty hunter helmet you can get if you become BFFs with the imperial fleet or whatever.

The real reason they removed battlemaster....to recolor it and feed it back to us as new content, apparently.

One of the great video game mysteries of my lifetime, in my opinion, will be the question as to how so many former Mythic employees, many of whom worked on WAR which actually had decent and engaging OPvP, could fail so miserably at implementing OPvP in TOR. It's almost like they ignored one of the few things that WAR did well and decide to try to implement all of the things it did poorly. Also, why fight over Ilum? Sure, I get the whole Aedegan crystal storyline, which was pretty thin to begin with IMO, but why not simply create a new, separate area on a planet has a much more well-established importance to the war efforts for both sides, such as Balmorra or Corellia. This would also allow you to save a bit of time on development because you could reuse most of the preexisting textures/architecture and even allow to set the phase cap lower to compensate for the inadequacies of the Hero Engine.

It's decisions and patches like this one that really cause me to wonder how much of their design team is outsourced to third-parties/individuals who have little to no experience of previous MMOs and mechanics that have proven successfuly in the past. Hell, if it weren't the massive Reknown grind and the class imbalances in WAR, I would still play that game over TOR because it offered a much more satisfying OPvP experience compared to this game. Even with a huge disadvantage from a numbers standpoint, it was still possible to have an enjoyable OPvP experience when it came to T2+ with superior tactics (feints, proper reconnaissance, guerilla warfare, etc). I almost wish there was a way to take the mechanics of OPvP/RvR in WAR and just mod in the classes/landscapes of TOR. I'd even pay up to $25 USD/mo if a game like that existed, but don't tell that to the suits in the EA executive suite or the decision makers at BioWare.

I haven't even been able to finish downloading the patch yet. I get an error message and the repair tool is taking hours. Do you see me throwing fits? No.

The OP has played the event for 45mins and has decided that its terrible because he doesn't like it.
Unsubscribed due to no new Operations.
I am happy that there will be a renewed focus on story, I love story, its why I picked this MMO. But I picked an MMO, not an episodic single player RPG that I have to pay a subscription to receive the episodes.

One of the great fallacies of War was that it tried to force PvE into PvP content. Remember having to do area pve quests to cap a zone? Or how about end game being strictly PvE area quests. Great you PvP all the way into a city Invasion just to have to PvE the "king"?

While Objective Oriented PvP should be in game and well thought out, just simple steps like PvP rewards is all thats needed to jump start OPvP.

Well OP, I'm not happy either. Funny how they always manage to screw things up. You want a PVP event in a PVP area, and I want no PVP in my event, because I play on a PVE server. Why are they always forcing crap on us that we dont want.

PVE players play on a PVE server for a reason, and thats to avoid PVP and the nitwits it tends to attract. I just want to do quests and gather my items to get whatever in peace. I don't want to spend hours trying to figure out how to avoid a crop of neaderthol gankers.

I said I was not impressed and not happy about the patch. I also expressed dissatisfaction with their Idea of an Ilum revamp. No where did I say it was terrible.

My expectations for this Patch were not met. I am expressing my dissatisfaction with that. Now maybe my expectations were set to high. I mean really my only expectation going into this was a rewarding OPvP experience. I even expressed the enjoyment I got out of the PvP this morning. But it truly was just ganking people trying to do dailies. It wasnt what I hoped for or expected. And you cant blame me for that since this was one very secretive patch not even hitting PTS.

And dont even pretend like I'm the only person who isnt happy about this patch. There are complaints on both sides. PvE'rs complaining about the FFA area. People who like FPs and OPs complaining about the lack of content this provides. People complaining about the gear. My complaint is that they took a Opvp area and turned it into a PvE event with a small FFA area inside without addressing a single issue that we OPvP'rs have brought up since the first attempt at Ilum.

Actually all I want is rewards for killing players. You see it doesnt have to affect you if your on a PvE server since you have to flag for PvP. I dont want PvE ganking. I dont want PvE mixed into PvP at all. I want to progress through the game killing enemy players. Not my own faction. But they cant even give that to us on a PvP server.

It would be like me taking away your rewards for killing NPC and saying that quest completion is the only way you can earn xp/credits/gear. No drops, no rewards. You just kill NPCs to get quest credit and nothing more.

I like PvE content. I love that there are so many options for so many play styles. There is so much to do. But I dislike repetitive content. And thats what WZ have become. Its not that I dislike the patch or the Event. Its that it wasnt what I was waiting for. It was a huge let down.

Now when I get home and work some more on the dailies I might find that it is terrible aswell, but I'll hold my judgment on that for later.

The contested area is the only place that will flag for PVP on a PVE server, the rest of the zone does not.
That was my experience. It took much longer to run the PvE quests as opposed to PvP. PvP was easy peasy and it was hotly contested as Imps started to organize. lol!

Overall, I found it to be excellent fun. Lets see what they add in the next few days.
