You can expect them to accompany the launch of a new film with action figures, DVD re-releases, a fast-food tie in, and yes, a slew of new video games set around the movie.

I'd think SWTOR's setting of "a long time before a long time ago" with characters dead for thousands of years would have a lot less stock compared to the events surrounding the New Republic.

So basically, yeah, I'd think SWTOR isn't going to be helped by the movies when they come out, which is still a long time away. The game barely survived its first year. It may be in maintenance mode in 3 years.

If Disney judges the MMO market to be viable for them, expect them to launch a SWTNR game - and we can be damn sure they won't be putting that project in the hands of EA or BW after how they handled SWTOR.
Two problems with your thinking,

One is the very idea that EA/Bioware didn't go into this with a minimum 5 year contract, with options to extend, to not only run this high earning game title but that the contract doesn't include Lucas Arts (and its parent Lucas Film and so its parent Disney) cannot make competing Starwars MMO or RPG titles through other companies till that contract concludes. That is pretty basic boiler plate of the industry and proven by the forced closing of SWG. Disney could buy them out of such a contract but you don't buy out a major earner (which the last EA quarterly showed it is despite the mismanagement we see as players) to close it down to make room for something new that may or may not be better.

And secondly, your appraisal that people will be put off a game set thousands of years before 'A long time ago' which has the Starwars logo, music, and lets you play Jedi and Smugglers and Bountyhunters, on familiar worlds, defies the very logic of Disney buying the brand and already in preproduction to make four plus more movies based off the hits of 35 years ago. Bioware brought Starwars fans to Kotor, then Kotor and Starwars fans to SwTor, and I doubt the sales numbers of Kotor equal SwTor. Disney is now going to renew interest in Starwars, that is going to have an effect on SwTOR.

I am not stating that Disney or EA should be begging each other to copy and paste the game for the original or future time periods by remaking the planets, classes and class stories, etc, but if they want to maximize the return from new players that are going to come from the free advertising and brand identification that will be new movies, they should be showing more confidence in the game and Bioware to be ready for it.
Laugh and the universe laughs with you, cry and you're on the path to the dark side.

I'm praying for a return to the "gritty-ness" of the original trilogy. Episodes 1, 2 and 3 were too "clean" and often far too childish in comparison to the originals and it grated the entire time. Episode 3 attempted to re-dress this with the harsh storyline and deaths which was good but the settings and especially the droids kept the film quite childish.

that is what worries me most about the Disney takeover: the new films could be too childish and clean.

however, as a life-long star wars fan I am still excited about the next trilogy, and JJ Abrams managed to take one of the most boring sci-fi series (star trek) and turn it in to something epic that everyone could enjoy. I have faith in his ability to do the same for Star Wars which is a franchise already infinitely better than star trek! If disney are gonna screw up it will be with the spin offs. I DO NOT WANT a Han Solo movie! NO ONE CAN REPLACE HARRISON FORD!

Currently retired due to poor design decisions within the game that have killed its longevity. Get rid of Hickman before he ruins the game completely!

Funny but I know someone who hates Star Trek and loves Star Wars. Plays this game and refuses to touch STO. When he was visiting one time, I popped in my JJ-verse Trek DVD in while he was playing this game on his laptop in the room. He started paying more attention to the movie and shut this game down to watch it. After it was over he said "That didn't seem like Star Trek to me. I liked it."

I told him about what JJ said in the extras part about he was making a Star Trek at a Star Wars pacing. And how Trek seems more classical music while Star Wars was more rock music in the pacing.

If Trek was any indication, we have already seen what's in store for the Star Wars franchise under his direction.

I see a potential problem of oversaturation. Disney paid a bundle and I can see them milking the franchise for all they can get out of it. Star Trek suffered from the same fate (along with some poor choices in movie plots/direction). I just don't see how Disney is going to pull something off that won't end up pissing a lot of people off - especially the EU fans. I am not that much of a lore hound, but anything that takes place in or around the EU period is not going to go over well if they pull a ST and start changing the canon around, and if they stick with stories and canon from the EU, it's inevitable that it will disappoint people - just like Peter Jackson did with aspects of LOTR and Hobbit.

If they are smart they will ignore everything Star Wars that was not in 4-6. Face it, the prequels are almost universally hated and ridiculed and the EU is known by a tiny percentage of the general public. I'd be surprised if they did anything other than pay it lip service for the uber fans.

I think some of the TOR storyline/background would make for quite a good spin-off TV-series to Star Wars.

I would pay 100 bucks to see whole movie such as TOR intro movies at cinema
"Once, I thought myself a monster. I played in rivers of blood and laughed as innocents quaked. Yet when I touched the Dread Masters, I saw that my darkness was but a shadow of true depravity."
