These days i do a gear check right at the start of a HM FP and if a player is undergeared, I let them know. I'll then ask if they know the instance,(since it could be an alt and they know the FP). If it's their first time and have never done it, I'll as them to leave and do a story mode first. Sorry not playing teacher in HM, unless you know the basics.

What I expect is simple, if your doing a HM FP, then that means you've done it in regular mode first, your in at least tionese level gear,(not recruit gear doing LI HM) My Tank, DPS and Healer are all in full Campaign+ gear, so it's easy for me to carry one person who is undergeared, but if you don't know the fights and won't listen, you will be booted or I simply leave.

I don't mind doing every fight and waiting for someone to watch the cut scenes, what I do mind is the player that doesn't listen or has a god complex. If your not a team player then don't do FP's or OPS. That means learn and play your role.

After the initial gear check, if most are overgeared, then ASK if they want this to be a speed run, never assume.

Asking people to leave a HM flashpoint because they don't know it is unnecessary. All of the Tier 1 flashpoints are stupid simple, and for many of them don't even require an explanation. Even LI can be explained, and if the player is able to follow basic instructions you'll have no problems.

I'd rather take someone who has never run a flashpoint at all before but is willing to listen and pay attention than someone who is "super elite" and just does whatever they want.

best post on the forums in a long while OP . Very classy and tasteful .. however some who defend kicking for any other reason than abusive behavior come across ( even if not meaning to) as arrogant and mean spirited . You can explain to someone calmly about why it will be hard to continue with gear issues . But to just kick someone without telling them is just self serving and mean spirited . As a very aged (sadly) MMO player the one thing i have noticed that will kill the genre is the community . It used to be community that would rally around the game they love and try to show others why it is fun . Instead now we have people who only play them to be elite assbags. I applaude those who step up and take a moment to explain things VS just using a kick button or taunt someone for not knowing . We were all new at one time or another .

In the end 2 things . If a person is new , they may be sheepish because they have witnessed so many anger driven yells for simply saying " i'm new" and secondly not everyone who plays the game speaks the same language . So be patient. I also agree with the poster above me as well . I would gladly take a team full of slight geared new folks willing to learn than a bunch of people who cannot be bothered with giving a helping hand....

That being said if you calmly try and explain something to someone and they refuse to listen or get mouthy ... let the boot rise ... until then use some tact
there is darkness... there is light .. and there is the places in between ..............................................

I've recently returned to the game after a 9-10 month break and started over as a dps merc (tanking assassin last time).
I kind of felt like a newb when entering the various fp's since I only remebered 10% of the tactics and almost none of the "shortcuts" since my old guild always did full runs.

I found that as long as you're honest and tell your group that it's been a while, most ppl are friendly.

Of the 20 or so groupfinder fp's I've done this week, I've only encountered 2 bad groups, so I don't see a big problem. In fact, I'm impressed by the high standard and nice players on Tomb of Freedom Nadd (EU).
Thayce - 50 Mercenary
Thayse - 50 Assassin

You're expected to have at least run the FP before moving on, and really, a hard mode isn't the place to learn. Now, this is obviously not possible with an Operation, so ...

2) Take an hour to glance over the guides for the FP and OP's : No, *really*. It does NOT take that long at all to read the guys and at least understand the basic mechanics (hide from Anni droid behind turret, use knockbacks or grenade to finish last boss in False Emperor, etc). You don't have to memorize or take notes, but make yourself at least generally familar with it.

3) Tell people you're new! : for the love of God, when someone asks "has everyone run this FP before" , don't remain quiet if you haven't. If everyone is familiar with it, I'm going to assume they know all the skips, where to stand, and what the boss mechanics are -- and if we wipe and you wait until THEN to tell me you are new, people will be understandably angry.

4) Make an *attempt* at being properly geared: look, if you just dinged 50 , no one expect you to show up in augmented campaign gear, lol. But nowdays you get a free set of Tionese and a handful of BH coms just for hitting 50. Get your free set, and run a few dailies to pick up some Black Hole pieces, before you start running. The orange gear with a bunch of green 42 mods that got you to 50 is simply not going to cut it for some of the HM FP and will get you completely wrecked even in an SM OP.

5) Have your guild run you: get with a guild and have them run you through OPs to get into better gear ASAP. Your guildies can also give you tips and tricks on how to make it past certain tricky spots or handle the scarier HM like LI and TFB OP. Running solo is fine when derping about your class story, but a guild really is helpful when doing the end game content. Plus, using GF is a crapshoot in terms of who you end up grouped with. Speaking of that...

6) Be aware of GF and what it's used for: most people running Group Finder FP are doing so for daily comms and black hole comms. They are going to be wanting to do it as fast as possible and , sometimes, will be very dismissive of a new player or even kick you. No matter. Brush yourself off and try again, there are plenty of nice people in the game who will be happy to help.

If you need a healer or tank for any content, I'm on Harbinger and very willing to help fresh 50's.
I think I agree with this than the OP. Show me you're making an effort and an effort will be returned to you in favor.

Don't come straight to HM FP's and say I have never been hear and I have never done this normal and I know nothing. Thats asking for trouble. It shows you care nothing but how fast you can get gear and want others to get it for you. If you can't put in the effort, neither should I.

Say you're new at a minimum. but at least make an effort to not be clueless.

Try to know the FP's, try to know what the normal bosses do. The HM bosses are not that much different. From that point you might actually impress someone for being new and knowing what to do.

Try to do something gear wise before you hit a HM FP. If you did a couple dailies for just a week, you could have the 5 main pieces geared with purple 22 armoring's, mods and enchantments and thats with out getting the tionese gear.
There are easy things you can do to get gear as a new 50. Do them.

A new person can make it so much easier on themselves if they tried. Older players still need to step up sometimes and help out but newer players need to show the olders ones that they are at least trying.

You dont even really have to dailies anymore to jump in. Once you hit 50 you can equip almost a full set of tionese that you get for free which is good enough for a hm fp.

Recently I had a discussion about gear, and was told that Tionese is unequivocally better than the mix of PVP gear I currently wear, because "it's made for PVE," and that If I use PVP gear to run any hard mode flashpoint, I'll fail miserably, the party will wipe, and I'll probably get kicked. With that in mind, I went to the Tionese vendor and compared how much of an improvement Tionese would be for me. Switching would result in:

+97 Power
-465 Armor
-222 Endurance
-225 Cunning
-61 Accuracy
-139 Crit
-53 Surge
-13 Alacrity
-162 Tech Power
-65 Mainhand max damage
-35 Mainhand min damage
-65 Offhand max damage
-35 Offhand min damage

Despite those numbers, some people still believe that being classified as "PVE armor" magically makes it better than anything else.

For comparative purposes, switching to full Black Hole gear would result in the following:

-24 Armor

+106 Endurance
+13 Cunning

-37 Power
+148 Crit
+4 Alacrity
+61 Surge

-37 Accuracy
This, and good on you for doing your research. Nothing sticks in someone's craw like being shown raw numbers.

I have a complete set of War Hero with a couple of Elite pieces, and I can keep up with all but the highest tiers of PVE armor available. To be fair, I have not done any ops, nor will I until I feel comfortable in HM flashpoints, but that's being fair to myself as well as others. If I can get to a decent tier of PVE gear before doing an Op, I'm hoping I can avoid the 'Gear Fascists', at least their arguments.

Problem with her numbers is its all BS

Yes Tionesse has lower Armor then Warhero or Elite Warhero gear.
What she leaves out of statement is Armor rating is basically meaningless for a DPS or even Healer if people playing the classes are agro dumping regularly, useing defensive abilities when required.

Tionesse does however have higher main stat and 2nd stat bonuses on armor preices and "some" mods/enhancements (not all so you have to pick and choose carefully)

Hilts and barrels are higher rating on warhero and elite war hero gear then tionesse but its not hard at all to get 26 and 27 hilts and barrels now a days so really no exuse to be using WH/EWH hilts and barrels other then blanket laziness.

In the end it comes to this, Id kick poster your replying to from a group with out a second thought. Wouldnt even blink over it.

Not because she has PVP gear. My characters (excluding my gimp arse guardian) are all so OP for HMFPs now that I can carry her gimp arse character through with out much issue.

Id kick her because she clearly refuses to listen to truth and common sense and I get feeling is one of those that would sit there in FP argueing with you when you tried to help her with truthful and positive suggestions. Shed yammer on and on and on about tionesse < PVP and in the end Id get a head ache and say "you should have columi or better for HMs, goodbye".

And I wouldnt be wrong.

If you can spend the time to get full suit of Warhero or Elite warhero, you can spend time getting black hole coms from weeklies, dreadguard relics and Rakata earpeices from dailies, and columi (at a minimum) from storymode FPs and OPs.

If I was her id enter HMFPs and say "sorry all, still working on proper PVE set of gear so please excuse the the PVP gear". 9 outta 10 groups will do just that and as long as she wasnt a loud mouth who claims to know it all, will gladly carry her through FP.

I always find it funny how you enter a PVP WZ in Rakata or even Black Hole and you will get abused for having 0 expertise (and rightfully so), and people will leave WZ rather then carry you through.

Yet you enter PVE with understated PVP gear and its just assumed everyone will and should carry you through it.

This game is SUPER EASY MODE to get the basic HMFP level PVE gear and WH PVP gear.

There is NO VALID EXUSE anyone should not have 2 sets of gear in very short order (2-3 weeks max if not less).

Yes Tionesse < War hero
Warhero < Dreadguard

Whats the point?
You should have columi or higher for HMFP idealy and Elite Warhero for PVP ideal.
Defending less then that as acceptable is only going to get you tossed from PVE groups and left solo in PVP WZs
In regards to lessening F2P and Preferred restrictions
In GAMING, as in LIFE,
You get what you pay for
No game restriction is so dire that $15.00/month will not eliminate it

I'm sorry, what? you are supposed to have gear that drops from flashpoints or better... in order to RUN those flashpoints? collumi drops in hardmodes. regular flashpoints (that are impossible to find a pug for mind you, at least on my server) - drop Tionese.

also - I thought poster's main stat was cunning and lookie here, 225 cunning loss from switching to Tionese. loss of accuracy, loos of crit, loss of EVERYTHING but power. who cares about armor rating? poster is losing dps stats left and right. why should they bother switching to Tionese? since when does another other then pure stats matter?

has it occurred to you that warhero gear might have been side effect of enjoying pvp content rather then the goal of it?

you are the sort of elitist that I would personally never EVER would wish to run with, I don't care how skilled you may be, or think you are.

When people do that while I'm tanking, they tank what they've aggroed. I have no problem letting them die and the team wipe if they're dumb enough to help the leeroyer out. Force Cloak ftw.

Same goes for people that break my cc thus not allowing the team to run past undetected. You aggro, you tank. Most people get the idea after their first death.

I mean, how hard can following three simple rules be?
- follow the tank
- don't aggro what tank doesn't aggro
- don't break cc
