Do other MMOs have the Ability to Fly

I wouldn't want to see flying bird mounts or half unicornn half eagle crap, but it might be nice to have the larger speeders that drop in operations capable of flight, mostly for Coruscant and Nar Shaddaa. Would be fun to free roam between the areas.

Thought i'm sure most of the scenery you fly past in the taxi is just 'false walls' and bio ware would never let us find out

You'll see Orcs in SWTOR before you see Flying Mounts IMO.
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

that said, I have mixed feelings on flying mounts.

on one hand, they are very convenient. you just skip everything and fly straight and save time. on the other hand - you skip everything. most datacrons definitely become trivial unless they require multiple people to access. and it really unbalances world pvp on pvp servers. sometimes, when I'm on Belsavis or Taris, I wish I could just fly over all those dead end walls. farming is certainly easier when flying, since you don't have to fight your way to the node. but in some ways... it takes away something from the world.

so certain conveniences aside, I'd rather we stay away from flying in SWTOR.

SWTOR isn't tiny, but it's not a massive game world either (total square footage - ignoring how it is broken into planets).

I don't think they'll ever have Flying Mount not because of world size though, so much as the design, it you look at the current design there are LOADS of places they specifically and intentionally stop you from going, unlike other non-flying mount MMOs like Rift or WAR or LOTRO, never mind the rebuilt Flying Mount WoW world.

I hate flying, it ruins most of the time the two aspects I love in MMOs. Exploration and open world PvP. Sure, I guess it could be done in a way that would work, but I have never seen it done in good way. So I would like not to see it in SWTOR. I would prefer swimming/diving and if BioWare can pull that off we can talk again about flying.

*Sighs*

Threads like this make me miss City of Heroes all the more. It not only had flight as a means to get around, but super jump a la The Hulk, and teleportation, meaning the game designers created a world you could look at and explore to every nook and cranny. People who talk about immersion should consider just how far that goes. I watched the sunrise from the top of the statue of Atlas in Atlas Park, the highest point on the dam in Faultline, and some of the tallest skyscrappers in Talos, Steel Canyon and Founders Falls, not to mention climbing the web in Grandville, etc, etc, etc. It really makes you wonder, if they could do it in 2004, with a development team numbering less than 100 (at one point post launch the COH development team was famously as small as 15 freaking people, and they STILL managed to crank out enough quality content that the playerbase literally had no idea til years later that so few people were working on the game), why can't a mammoth project like SWTOR do it in 2011? Don't get me wrong, I like SWTOR, but this was one of those things back in beta that made me go...really? No fully explorable worlds, or ways to do so?
Don't make me get all green perpendicular up in this beeotch.
Yeah.
I said it.

There is an MMO called FlyFF. Thats, Flying For Fun. It is pretty cool to fly around and look at all the giant high level mobs. However, be aware that the only point to the game is leveling.
ITS THE FUTURE

Truth be told as far as WOW is concerned. There seems to be about as many that hate flying vs those that love it.

It's apparently a double edged sword for some players.

But like WOW this game could evolve to include flying mounts. You never know. I know at one point we never though we would get them in WOW vanilla content but they revamped the entire world to allow it to happen.

so who knows what will happen in SWTOR. However, I think more want a better space game than world flying mounts.

There was no flight in the Hero Engine, hence there is no flight in SWTOR.

Maybe somewhere down the road we will see it (WoW got it after 8 years)
Agreed. Mainly because ... "There is no there, there". Much of the tiny worlds are just pretty pictures off on the horizon.

Also, does the Hero Engine Support flight?
