The Female Gamer - Are you guys not over this yet?

Listen up mate, my wife is a gamergirl ( i can proove ) she actually NEVER ever goes on VOIP because she dont want peopel hit on her...that easy...
Its the same for all genders... if you dont want soemone speaking spanish to you.. dont reveal you're speaking spanish.. if youre a girl.. and dont want flirt.. then just dont reveal you're a girl.. do not join PUGs or just dont talk IF you dont want to get flirted...

Actually, the OP's point was that this behaviour is actually novel and unique to TOR now.

The MMO community has evolved, this one seems to hold a higher share of the naive and the just plain clueless.

I've been playing MMOs since I started FFXI over 10 years ago. I was young when I started playing and have always created male characters. I felt like it helped to avoid the whole getting treated differently for being a girl, and all the rest of that.

When I started SWTOR I followed the same thing, old habits die hard I guess, and I created a male Trooper. However, once I joined my guild and started using voice chat with them, it was obvious I was female. Everyone in my guild has been cool and we have a couple of other girls in the guild as well.

We run a teamspeak server and recently put our photos as avatars for fun.

However, recently, we had a situation where we had a pug DPS join our OPs group because we were missing a dps. We invited him into TS and the second he noticed that I was a girl, I started getting tells from him almost right away. I have no idea how young/old he was, but I'm 26 and am not in the mood to have guys flirting with me over an MMO.

I also haven't seen anything like this in a while, nor heard of it, and figured it was a dying thing with mmos where guys have finally realised that "yeah, girls play too." But apparently not.

Wow, Prysha, I feel really, really sorry for your wife. I refuse to reserve myself exclusively for my husband, and I refuse to ignore (or be expected to ignore) approximately half the world's population because they're male, and I don't expect to be treated as neuter. I'm female. Being female is nothing to flaunt, it's also something I don't care to hide, and I shouldn't have to.

I don't feel it's necessary to make sure everyone I ever communicate with knows from the get-go that I'm female, but if I keep being treated as male, it bugs me. I'm sick and tired of being called 'man', 'bro', 'mister', 'sir', 'dude', so yeah, I might respond to someone who directed something like that at me- and that's not flaunting my gender, it's me being irritated that males have faked being female online so much that now it's damn near the default to treat everyone as male. THIS IS IRRITATING, and I shouldn't be treated badly for feeling irritated about it. That does not make me an attention seeker. I mean, honestly, you can't tell me most typical men would ignore repeatedly being called 'ma'am', 'missy', 'chick', 'girl', etc. Just try it, see how long you can get away with that. It's just as irritating to us having it turned around the other way. (So please, folks, recognize that it's not necessary to genderize general statements to someone. You can just say 'Thanks!' instead of 'Thanks, bro!' Even the little things add up over time.)

Haven't read the whole thread, but too many girls accidentally "let slip" that they're a girl, while saying they hate how they're treated because of it. Most of them secretly want the attention. They might make a big deal of it, they might make forum posts loudly exclaiming "wow, I can't believe you guys aren't over this already!"

Well my wife atleast knows that she dont wants someone else.. so she dont gives them the impression of being "available" whats wrong with that?

Also, why is "revealing my gender" in GAMEs so important? in games everyoen should be just seen as "Player" .. a genderless person to communicate with.. not girl or boy...
