When I started SWTOR I followed the same thing, old habits die hard I guess, and I created a male Trooper. However, once I joined my guild and started using voice chat with them, it was obvious I was female. Everyone in my guild has been cool and we have a couple of other girls in the guild as well.

We run a teamspeak server and recently put our photos as avatars for fun.

However, recently, we had a situation where we had a pug DPS join our OPs group because we were missing a dps. We invited him into TS and the second he noticed that I was a girl, I started getting tells from him almost right away. I have no idea how young/old he was, but I'm 26 and am not in the mood to have guys flirting with me over an MMO.

I also haven't seen anything like this in a while, nor heard of it, and figured it was a dying thing with mmos where guys have finally realised that "yeah, girls play too." But apparently not.

This still happens for a myriad of reasons, so I will only touch on a few. First and foremost, the guy to girl ratio is largely stacked against you. It's likely something akin to 20+ guys for every one girl in an MMO. Secondly, the majority of mmo players are usually socially inept and awkward. These smart nerds are naturally drawn to products like these compared to console gaming (which is more socially acceptable by popular people), because of the more intellectual challenges it usually provides. There are very few beautiful/popular people who actually play mmo's. So when a nerdy loser sees a girl, they got bat***** crazy and can't control themselves.

On the flip-side, very few pretty girls actually play as well. Most are ugly and overweight, just like the majority of the guys playing. So it surprises me that most want to avoid any male contact. Hello!, the stereotype that "you are playing in your mom's basement" was created for a reason. The moral of the story? Don't date on an mmo, unless you have low standards, are messed up and don't have a real life where the real people play. Also, if a guy finds out your girl, just tell them that you are fat and ugly and that the pic is fake, problem solved. They will usually leave you alone, because they think they deserve some sort of mmo playing super model to fall in love with them. Social re-tards.

If you want it to be over why are you announcing it over a public forum?

No one gives a **** about what gender you play as. No one gives a **** if you're a girl or guy.

The only one causing a problem is you OP. You're the one causing the fuss. No one else is.

Sadly, yes. One even split the guild and killed it. I'm not saying I've seen it hundreds of times, if that's the impression I gave. But I do need both hands to count how many times I've seen it happen, and all but one has ended badly or gone no where except for one, but Id say it was still rather recent.

Grass is always greener.

But if I had to guess for the OP, the guy who hit on her was either very young, or Id bet even more likely as she didn't seem to think he was underage (I could be wrong on this), but in an area where it's "OMG WHAT?! Computer games?"

In my experience, MMO gaming is still the minority in most social circles.

Sooo, it became a failed attempt at trying to flirt online. Like many a bar/cub scene flirting

I have a hard time believing that a 26-year-old woman is in any way suprised by this behavior.

This made me laugh.

It's true though. Console gaming. Phone app gaming. Facebook games. Socially acceptable! *** you play WoW?! Not as much

I guess stereotypes always do exist for a reason, but they're also very often NOT true. I think at this point, gaming has become very "mainstream" and the whole idea of people being fat ugly dudes in their mom's basement certainly isn't going to be the majority of people you meet. Probably 90% of the people I've gamed with have just been normal, average people with jobs, family, relationships.

The OP isn't causing a fuss. It's general discussion and they have a topic they wish to discuss.

You swearing and telling off the OP is making a fuss and does not contribute anything constructive to the discussion, regardless of whether you agree or disagree.
