I hate it too, in WoW I would frequently talk with the people around me, now I don't bother.

Anyway it is just another example of slip shod workmanship and employees doing the bare minimum to get paid.

I keep hoping Disney will dump the whole dev team and start over.

I agree with the original poster. Chat bubbles (including an option to toggle them on and off on your client) is probably the most needed feature for most roleplayers and socializers. It's as important to roleplay and the social game as the group finder is for PVE or the warzone queue system is for PVP. While players that focus mainly on the PVP and PVE aspect have gotten their features of the same importance a long time ago, roleplayers and socializers are still waiting for theirs (even though chat bubbles were originally promised to be implemented way before even the group finder).
And for the haters or those that just don't understand it, the beauty about an option to toggle them on and off on your client is that you can decide wether to use the feature or not (Bioware already told us that option will be there when chat bubbles are implemented). Everyone wins!

Those that wish to get chat bubbles, feel free to make your voices heard in the following thread over in the suggestions forum as well:

Chat Bubbles: Please add them and a toggle option to enable speech bubbles for /say, /yell and /emote chat!

I support chat bubble option. Should of been in game from start.

To the people that get their panties in a knot about chat bubbles. You do realize it would be a toggle-able option right? With probably defaulted to off.

I wanted stuff like this but after a year it seems there are few people that care about random rp

The community wants leader boards and expertise pvp gear

This is the way the mmo is headed got to accept it

If chat bubbles were a priority we would have them by now

There has been a post about chat bubbles in suggestion forum and it seems long but it has been up for a year and its mostly the same people over and over, I know I was one of them lol

I don't suggest people RP in swtor unless you want to hang in he fleet and get requested by weirdos that want to erp bleh
Two things make this a bad roleplaying game...

1) Poor implementation of/complete lack of RP-friendly features.

2) A far more juvenile playerbase than any other non-WoW MMO.

You could use /say to say thanks instead of whisper.

SW lore since 1982 is best ignored. Spongebob Squarepants has more internal logic and consistency.

Personnally i doubt chat bubbles will make my I7 or my 560gfx really lag besides on the fleet we're i don't care about lag.
You could be running a super computer and it wouldn't help you with this. Its all server side rendering, do you remember ilum? Yeaaaahhhh

When I said that, I was thinking along other lines of game lore, like, "Oh! I'm not a Sith, I'm a Jedi!" And then with the adding of items not really meant for the RP crowd being introduced and then used ad-nauseum in RP, like the Imperial Throne. Or ever notice how so many slaves run around freely? One could say it's only within the guilds, but guilds start getting to big it all starts to become a mess.
