i think the code allows you to start playing now and have a few days grace - after that you have to enter your product code - at least i think its like that

Or is that code essentially to let you 'start playing' fully when the game is released and you can access your early access regardless when they actually give you an invite?
That's the code to let your start playing fully. The pre-order code you entered previously is just that, a code to give you a place in the pre-order queue. Once the 20th launch happens and you haven't entered your code you cannot play until you have.

It's also the reason Stephen Reid has been pestering retailers to try and give us an indication of when deliveries will happen.

This is written on the "my account" right above where it shows what step you are in.

f you are a pre-order customer, the following steps are NOT required for Early Game Access. However, in order to play Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ at the official launch of the game on December 20, 2011, 12:01AM EST (Pacific: December 19th, 9:01PM; European: December 20th, 05:01AM GMT, 06:01 CET), you must first answer a series of security questions and provide your contact information. Then you must redeem a Product Registration Code that came with the game, and either subscribe to the game or redeem a Game Time Code. Follow the steps outlined below!

Makes sense to me, I just wish they gave me more notice on when I actually get early game access, as I'd rather book holiday's then call in sick to work :P
