Gear from content, not from market!

I am sure this was hashed over but I guess i harbor some rare hope that a dev will see this and actually make something happen.

Why, on God's green earth, is something as ICONIC as the Revan armor set something you get from loot bags??

( Enter, the all illusive and never mentioned Legendary items)

I am so sad that the cool new gear, weapons, and items available in the cartel market are never going to be items you had to actually go out and earn. A quest line to get the Helm of Revan? Awesome. Long chains to have a chance at getting pieces to a full set of cool new armor or lightsaber crystals that took effort (like the magenta) would have been and meant more to the community than bioware turning into a cash hound.

I guess i hoped for better.

The "immerse yourself in the star wars universe" idea has been put out to pasture. Buy your new toys, rookies.

I agree. Since the Cartel Market launched there doesn't appear to be anything that can be obtained from doing stuff in game. All the cool armor that people want is simply bought which is wrong, it takes away any sense of achievement and fun. A large part of doing flashpoints and ops, apart from story and challenge is to get the gear, see what drops. you take that away by putting these things in the CM.

Revan is such an iconic, and EPIC character in the old republic universe that these robes should have been some kind of super rare in-game drop from somewhere, so that A - Everyone isn't running about looking Revan and B it offers people a reason to engage with the game and allows them to show off to a degree.

Even the new JEdi/Sith robes that were shown in the Deceived trailer should have been in the game ages ago maybe part of Legacy or Warznes or something but you simply put them into the CS, you are killing this game for me.

I cancelled my sub because I refuse to financially support this type of game design. I will do the class stories via F2P but until you start giving subs and the game attention you are giving the CM\, you wont get another penny from me.

This is how they intend to make money now, with the Cashshop.

Personally I'm not expecting much decent looking gear to come through content anymore, just through the Cashshop.
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

The Elite War Hero Gear was introduced after the introduction of the Cartel Market. And I have no doubt that with the introduction of new flashpoints/ops we'll see new gear thrown in as well. Beyond that, also with the introduction of Makeb, we'll surely be seeing new gear for the 51-55 range added.

MMO's rarely throw in new gear outside of a market into existing content, but only add gear with newly developed content.

A long story quest to get Reven's helm would have certainly fitted the ethos SWTOR was sold on better than a random from a gambling pack, don't you think?

I'snt that PvP stuff though? They need to have new gear for all content. And I bet the stuff you can earn in game is nowehre near as nice as the stuff on the CM. The kinda stuff they should be selling on the Cartel Shop is fluff like little pets, or banners, emotes, maybe the odd mount like WoW does - fun stuff like that. Not actual gear that looks amazing.

Yes, it's PvP stuff, considering as to how it came with a PvP related content patch. Once we see new PvE content patches, we'll see new PvE gear along with it. There's already images of what the new endgame PvE gear will look like floating around the web, have a quick search I'd say.

And as for cartel gear being nicer, that's all highly subjective. Some pieces look like crap, some look good. That goes for both the cartel market as well as the ingame rewards. For example the latest cartel market sith raider set, looks butt ugly. I'd by far prefer the dread guard war leader over it.

the funny thing is that people can not only buy their look now, but they can buy the gear as in actual stats too. for pve, anyway. (and granted with full 63 mods you won't do worse than in recruit gear, either, depending on your class you put out a lot of dmg in fully min-maxed pve gear)

it's freaking easy for people to buy their entire progression now. buy a bunch of bags or sets and sell them on the gtn, then take the credits and buy the mods for your own gear... zing you have dreadguard gear without ever stepping foot into any end game content.

(I don't actually totally mind when people use their 'hard earned' credits to buy high end gear, I do like actually achieving things though, and I'm usually happy when I see someone running around with an orobird because chances are they did .not. buy it but actually got the egg themselves)

Well you have a point there I suppose but they are still churning the Cartel stuff out really fast and I still say its wrong for the actual gear to be there in the first place.

Honestly, because the game is F2P. It's that simple. Cool looking gear is always sold in the market. Look, folks are always on the lookout for any hint of the dreaded "PAY TO WIN!" Here folks also beat up on EA for selling access to game features and UI. Right or wrong, that's the reality.

However, it is generally agreed that cash shops can sell appearance gear. The thing is, they have to sell something. It's not a sub only game anymore. And putting the Revan gear in packs makes them money.

Not necessarily. I remember the bad old days where I would be missing the chestpiece of a set or could never find a decent looking sword. All it did is make me want to quit...which is exactly what I did in games that tied appearance to very long tedious quests.
Below this is my referral link. If you press it you get free stuff and I get free stuff. This makes you, me....and Bioware happy, but don't let that stop you!
