Agreed. The end game gear in this game is ridiculous. Only class that looks half way decent IMO is the Trooper. But the worst, two of my mains are a Shadow and a Sage and you know how completely utterly absurd those look. It's really, really hard for me to understand how those got the green light.
Below this is my referral link. If you press it you get free stuff and I get free stuff. This makes you, me....and Bioware happy, but don't let that stop you!

My guess is they felt making all items modable would detract from the carrot on a stick model for grinding gear (though IMO it wouldn't as you'd be grinding for mods rather than grinding for gear). Not to mention most Star Wars fans would most likely avoid/want to avoid the more exotic gear in favor of stuff that looks like it's from the movies.

I was in beta when they made most/all items modable. Was great. Sad to see they botched it prior to launch.

Yes the high level gear does look really bad BUT:

My personal opinion on the best looking sets are the centurion pvp sets and the level 40 pvp sets. Just very nicely done and fit well.

Here's a link showcasing each set from twenty - forty then elite war hero. Check out the consulars sets. They get increasingly amazing to a stunning level 50 centurion set. Just so perfect then WHAAAM we're hit with something so horrifically ugly words are not enough:

I have been called a hater for voicing my opinion. So be it. But I would rather die on my feet, then live on my knees.

I agree with you most of the high end gear looks awful.
The jedi knights potato sack (Black Hole chest piece) is just one example of this...
But you know that there is many customable armors in game?
Most of them are orange or purple items (orange and purple edges around the item icon).
Go search at the GTN. if you find one you like buy it and rip the modifications out from the high end gear (select the item, open customation. clikc on the mod you want to rip out and move it to your inventory. Now open the customation to the orange/purple item and put the mods inside it).
By using this you can get high end gear and look just the way you want 8or really close at least a jedi can look like a jedi and not a warrior with a potato sack thrown over his head )

Andrliel, The hidden jedi, jedi shadow lvl 65
Sazill, Master of Lightning, sith sorcerer lv 65

Imo not just the high level gear but the lvl 43 Cartel light adaptive armor and many of the light armors (high 30s, low 40s) that look like it.

I agree 100%, there's some pretty cool looking gear that is ruined by massive shoulder pieces or weird smoke stacks like on the BH armor... I don't know what the designers were smoking when they created this armor but it's extremely funky looking...

I've ended up piece mealing my gear together from various flash points in order to get a decent looking set...
