Republic Trooper's Chestguard which is made by Armormech. So they are probably on your server's GTN. JGs can wear it too but it looks more for troopers.

My L24 is wearing an orange piece that dropped on Taris, and looks a lot like what the soldiers in Taris are wearing, kin of a green camo style piece, no butt flap (good lord!). I actually got another piece at a flashpoint and as soon as I notice the flap I took it off. ugh. Sorry I don't know the name but when I log in later I will look it up.
I don't know if this is a Sith thing, but at the beginning of every game conversation my first thought is "You are so dead"...

An armour set that might suit you well is the combination of Tempered Laminoid Chest and Legs, paired with Outcast Gauntlets and Boots. When unified, this makes for a very handsome white trooper armour with red accents. There is a raised panel on the back, but it is not a boxy backpack like some of the later armours.

This armour is moddable and can be crafted by players. If you're on Ebon Hawk, I'll be happy to make a set for you.

I know you're talking about boxes on the back of the armor, but since the iconic Stormtrooper uniform always had a little box of gear or tools or something on that back plate, I'm guessing you're referring to the obnoxious backpack units that look like they have various antennas jutting out of them.

The armor I liked the most on my first run through with the trooper was honestly the Clan Varad Recon Armor (orange custom) you can get from running Mandalorian Raiders as loot drops from bosses and chests.

The good news is, you're of a high enough level at 43 that you can just keep running the FP over and over again to suit up your entire squad with the same chest pieces, which was important for me, too. It's Havoc Squad, they ought to have a standard armor design, IMHO!

The Clan Varad Recon Armor has just a wee bit of a box back there, but it's sloped outward so that by the time it's farthest away from the chest piece in height, it's the smallest in footprint. It's also your classic Stormtrooper armor design, and goes well with the Clan Varad Recon Greaves (also orange custom).

Then I just chose to pair the Clan Varad Recon Armor chest and greaves with similar sets of gloves and boots (like the Heavy Armor orange custom boots from the LS vendor in the GTN quad on the fleet).

Anyway, take a look at that chest piece and see if it's more in line with what you're looking for. I know with my squad, it gave them a nice look that really brought home that trooper feel.

Good luck!

Does it have to have no box at all?

For example, have you thought about looking back at the armor you got from Trouble in Deed on Corruscant? Tempered Terenthium, I think it's called. That has a small box more like those typically seen in the films. Would that one be good?

I like it because I can use it for all my companions and have a matching squad and it was easy to rerun Trouble in Deed to get enough for everyone.

There are also several color variants of that you might consider.

Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive.

That's why I suggested the Republic Trooper's Chestguard. It has no box at all and should be cheap on the GTN. But if a small box is fine then yeah, run Trouble a few times. At his/her level, can solo it.

I'd have a look at TOR-Fashion.com, although it has a malware warning up right now.

There are a bunch of cool Armormech-crafted sets on display.

I think you may have gotten your names wrong, on Torhead, the set you refer to is the armour most suited to a Bounty Hunter, with huge jet pack on the back. I know this because my own Bounty Hunter has a similar armour chest piece.

As for the Stormtrooper and Clonetrooper armour - yeah those are fine as they dont so much have a box on the back, but a small raised area for what i assume are extra equipment and maybe battery packs for the armour itself.

I am currently using the RD-17A Phalanx Jacket from the GTN. I am not completely happy with it, but it will do for the time being until i find something more fitting. I have no idea what the ''butt flap'' is for as i cant find a suitable point to it. The pack on the back is small enough, the shoulders are pretty awesome - but the chest plate (for female) looks a bit odd.
My time card ends on December 5th. I have no intent to subscribe, let alone play, after i have completed all 9 episodes of KotFE. Likely i will subscribe for a single month to finish off the ''season'', play what remains and then say good bye to SWTOR until the END of the next season. Enjoy Bioware!
