I can't imagine how they could be aiming for anything less than a SW Battlefront type game personally (and really a proper 3D JTL+ game given the forum poll results), but I'd still bet on a co-op on-the-rails shooter.
Before you get too excited over it...has there been ANYTHING that Bioware has done that's made you go "WHOA, that was amazing"? Keep your expectations in line with what they've DONE, not what you've DREAMED - when you picture amazing living breathing worlds teaming with wildlife, Bioware pictures a few placed mobs and a world boss who paces back and forth....

Yeah that's why I'd bet on a co-op on-the-rails shooter. (still it is nice to hope )
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

Why don't the people asking for this pool several tens of millions of dollars and offer it to BW to fund this space expansion? Put their money where their mouth is.
Thats the problem IT should of been intended, putting on rails space combat was just laziness by bioware. Maybe they should of used some of that VO money on some decent combat and space combat and end game but then again you fan-boys loved the game when the servers were empty only playing with each other. Seriously it's only common sense with the technology to use co op space or something not star fox from the 90's and the fact you are arguing for them about how dumb it was to have it at launch is why they lost over 1 million subs, listening to fan-boys who said the game was perfect instead addressing the real problems. thank you for that!

To be honest i wouldnt say no, but i couldnt care less or ever did. This games folows KOTOR legacy, wich is what i realy wanted anyway, space sims, or combat it wasnt realy on the menu for me, dont miss what i never had, for starters. But i miss swoop racing though. I belive that is more then feasable then any space project.

yup the questing system. I saw the videos and thought whatever that can't be that cool these guys are way too excited about conversations. Then I played the beta and loved it. I haven't had this much fun in a MMO since well ever.

As for stuff after launch I would say Terror From Beyond blew me away. I did EV, KP, and EC, i enjoyed all of them but they seemed like standard MMO raids. I heard them hype up TFB and thought wow that does look cool. I then played it and it blew my expectations out the door. TFB is one of my top 3 raids of all time. It is a perfect raid it's what all raids should aspire to be.

The thing with SW though is that space is something games like WoW can't compete in, JTL was great and added a lot to SWG, the same could be done for SWTOR.

I'm sure they making a space game like X-wing Alliance would not be tough at all, that game came out like 15 years ago and is still a better space simulation than most space fighters out there and this rail shooter we got. I'm one of the ones who want a space expansion and open area space. Not because that's the sole game I wanna play... no I want it because space is a HUGE part of the Star wars universe and these rail shooters that are not even half as good as star fox 64 missions are kind of a total tease to having any space aspects. Would also love the option to either customize the inside of your ship or at least maybe at max level have an option to buy new ships. My current main is a trooper and I honestly think my ship is the worst one of all the characters.

Also those of you saying try out EVE... that is not what we want. We want star wars style not a total space simulation which btw that game is VERY intimidating. You start off, you can do the tutorial but still are lost harder than someoen in an advanced college physics class. I tried EVE a few times and my mind was just blown, had no clue where to start off or what to even do. Not to mention you have to be playing for months to even YEARS real time to get your skills up to par because of the way the skills work.

Theoretika and The Gauntlet mission with cinematics to name a couple. Personally I think I have my expectations in order, but they do have the capability to "WHOA" me, as history shows.

No they haven't. I believe this was alluded to in this last interview here.

Most people believe it to be a more free roaming space type content, but I don't think we really know exactly what it is. Not a lot of details, other than it's the SSSP.

EA should take a few pages out of Battlegrounds ... the space in that game was *great* ... ground and space, all in one 'instance'.
The SWG space "community" was full of elitist "pilots" who thought the ability to two shot a YT-1300 was their Elite Pilot Right. The space game was gimped by its inaccessiblity to the player community at large. If they had made it more like Battlefront without all the non-Star Warsy missiles and over in 2 second dogfights, it might have made a difference in a dying game.

Hopefully Bioware won't make the mistake of replicating the combat portion of Jump to Lightspeed and makes the space battles fun. In other words - NOT like current open world PvP where gear makes too much difference.
