Now we don't know how different it is. It could be full Jump To Light Speed or it could be more of like a Battlefront 2 instanced warzone match.
I'm hoping for the later, but either would be good.

Their co-op on-the-rails shooter?

yes in fact we have known since beta that the current space combat system was just a place holder until the real space combat what ever that might be gets made.

Now we don't know how different it is. It could be full Jump To Light Speed or it could be more of like a Battlefront 2 instanced warzone match.

Either way they are working on it. In fact in the last live podcast thing they do they said that they got to play the demo of it and implied it was multiplayer.
Ah you do mean thier co-op on-the-rails shooter.

It's simply not going to work out.

If this was 10 years ago, developing both would be fine.
Why on earth would Bioware EA copy EvE when they could copy JTL or a myriad of other SW space games all much better for SWTOR than EvE type space combat?
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

yeah... not a co op on rails shooter. We know that much. What it actually is we are not sure.

Putting the final nail in the coffin? No way. Of course they are going to hook that up. That's the expansion that will cost about $40. And its obvious there all sorts of hints on our ships that demonstrate things are not finished. It will get done, eventually.

it was more of a joke , seeing that thier spending more time on stuff that dont need to be added at this time. they could be adding more to the game that could save it like real space content , pazzak and housing.

All we know is it is multiplayer (2 or more players) that is IT (or at least we think it is multiplayer from the wording - it might not be). (and that is is a "whole new pixel space")

My bet is co-op on-the-rail shooter.

I'm hoping for JTL, but I just think that wouldn't be ready till 2017 with the current speed or developments, so late 2013? Co-op on-the-rails shooter is my bet.

It's a departure from our current space game.

It is a lot of fun. It's definitely not anything we've shipped in the original product.
they shipped with on rail shooter.

Don't give up OP! I'm sure some time early next year, we'll find out more about it. It's the next "carrot" from Bioware, nothing more.

Ah, I see what you're referring to.

What I find frustrating about the ambiguousness of Erickson's "totally different pixel space" statement is this:

Why not say it's a NOT-ON-RAILS space project? The only way this could come back and bite them in the ***, if they later ended up:

1. Changing their mind about what it will be
2. Scrap the project as too time consuming
3. Delay the project (DNF).

If they're actually making progress on an off-rails space shooter (a la JTL), and they told us this fact, it would help. I would argue that it would help a lot. And yet no dev is willing to say anything to confirm this.

It makes me wonder if they're keeping it intentionally vague just in case they can't (or wont) deliver the product.

Then they can say, "we never actually said off-rails, we just said 'totally different pixel space'"

Not a co-op one.

And not Zaxxon either.

I can't imagine how they could be aiming for anything less than a SW Battlefront type game personally (and really a proper 3D JTL+ game given the forum poll results), but I'd still bet on a co-op on-the-rails shooter.
