I used to do a lot of modding for a persistent world version of Neverwinter Nights (Bioware, google it if you dont remember!) This was a fantastic game and genius in concept while at the same time being as buggy as a termite mound and terribly written. NWN was great not because of coding and official content patching but because the community was able to write their own content and share the experience online with others.

With SWTOR they don't have new problems, its the same old rubbish caused by poor management and hiring cheap inexperienced coders. They hired people straight out of uni and claimed it was because they wanted fresh talent. This is great but experience counts for a lot and they didn't get the mix right. This is my opinion as to why we see so many rookie mistakes.

The failures in TOR were not caused by EA, but they have been exacerbated by it. I'm not sure what will fix it, but trying to gouge the subscribers for a cash injection is not the right answer.

Will certainly agree the problems are worsened by it being an MMO - if the game was not online only the consumers probably would have fixed a whole load of the bugs for them as traditionally happens with Bethesda games. Unfortunately as an MMO that is no longer an option.

They had one of the smoothest launches of MMOs in recent history and made an MMo that had a decent story. They should be proud of that. After that however, it kind of falls flat on it's face with things to be proud of. It needs work.

I think the orignal team did, I met allot of those guys at Pax and talked to them face to face, they were very proud of what they had done, and enjoyed working on the game it showed in how they talked about things.
Now that most all of them are gone and the company is just full of EA drone employees, that had no stake in the creation of the game and this is nothing more than a job, I don't think there is much pride in anything at EA.
Do not dwell in the past, do not not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Expectations lead to suffering

How the direction of this game is going, it's obvious they don't even play their game.

I would tend to agree with this most of the people who were committed to a vision (whether we agreed with the vision advocated or not) for the game left either voluntarily or given an offer they couldn't refuse. What's left of the original team is either too junior to make a difference or appears to be busy updating their CVs rather than fight a losing battle with EA's higher ups.

I wonder about that. It could be that somewhere along and near the end of the developement stage it was realized that they had rolled box cars. Panic and fear replace pride.

There is so much (there at launch) about the game that is brilliant and well done that it is amazing. Unfortunately that is offset by the many things that are poorly done, impemented, and concieved. SWTOR should have been the game of the decade, everything was there, and yet the best that I can do is hope that it wil make it to it/s second anniversary.

In answer to the thread question, no I do not think so. At this point I think that BW is gone and the EA strategy is to commit as little as possible to keep the beast alive while sucking as much money out of it as possible and then to move on. I do not see a bid for a long run based on quality. There is little room for pride in that.

They should be proud of the game they created. Its a really fun game at its core.

I'm sure they wish they have had more development time before bringing it out aswell as more resources and technology that they didnt. The game itself is pretty good though. Its just not fully optimised.

The proof that they havent lost faith in it is that we just had an expansion announced and an F2P option come out aswell as several 6 week patches.
