Am I the ONLY one annoyed...

I think some stuff should remain faction specific and in some rare cases even class specific. I know few agree with me and it's not like I'm against customization, but the throne is silly. I even think the flight suits should remain Rep/Imp. Unfortunately I think seeing the same stuff on both sides will only become more common in the future.

The bottom line is, too many players are willing to buy the odd-ball stuff, and cash shops are about exactly 1 thing: making money. Anyone who thinks cash shops are about enhancing the experience of the players is kidding themselves. The majority of items offered in a cash shop will be items equivalent to the crap you see as you're standing in line waiting to pay for your groceries at the supermarket. It's meant to be filled with novelty items that attract impulse buyers.

While not strictly impossible to offer those types of items while maintaining narrative cohesion, we have to realize that, more likely than not, the decision to offer thrones was no more contemplative than, "Hover thrones? Cool!"

I read you. But at the same time there's no reason why developers can't focus on churning out items which, while acquiescing to that whole "impulse buy" philosophy, also respect the game's internal narrative at the same time. It's just lazy and way too sloppy the way they're doing it now.

I just find it amusing that a game billed as adding the famed fourth pillar to MMOs, the famed BIOWARE story, has content that completly defies Star Wars story. I had fun in Huttball for (one) example, but Jedi fighting Sith to score a point.. Epic story-telling there...

as i said, they use the story card when its convieniant...
What about Jedi fighting Jedi? "I pushed a fellow member of the Order into the acid pit because I want to win a sadistic game for the pleasure of the Hutts! Go Jedi (at least the ones on my team, heck with the others)!"

Or the fact that a dark V Jedi can be the darling of the galaxy, no matter how many atrocities they have committed.

forced? Buddy you better draw a line there. You cannot dictate what other players want to look like.

I remember a similar argument when WoW was about to introduce cosmetic slots. YOU CANNOT DICTATE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE WANT TO LOOK LIKE! YOU CAN ONLY DICTATE WHAT YOU YOURSELF LOOK LIKE!

In caps so you get it. The world is not yours.

Okay then, I want to run around the galaxy decked out in a George W. Bush avatar. Or better yet, He-man. Oh! And Raphael from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

What, you say? "It doesn't make sense in terms of the lore"? Well, guess what: YOU CANNOT DICTATE --

etc...

I'm sorry, but that comparison doesn't hold any water. It's one thing for a Republic character to wear the clothing or use the vehicle of a character hailing from separate faction that exists in the same universe, it's another thing entirely for Star Wars character to run around dressed as something that doesn't exist in the fiction at all — which is what this equates to.

That's not quite right. There's a reason why Han, Luke and the rest of the gang had to disguise themselves as Imperial Storm Troopers in order to infiltrate the Death Star. They'd be shot on sight if they were running around in Republic colors.

Same principle SHOULD apply here...

Remember that scene where Darth Vader talks to the bounty hunters and they all look different? Han would fit right in with that crowd, actually. So the Fleets are pretty diverse these days, that's what I am saying.

LOL @ immersion breaking.

I've role played for over 20 years now. Rule number 1 about role playing, its for fun, never take it as seriously as you do Real Life, or people will percieve you as insane. And they would be right to do so.

Your immersion will never be perfect. Learn to accept this, or drive yourself insane. There will ALWAYS be some player out there playing a male toon in skimpy female clothing riding around on the biggest, most colourful mount they can find. Expect the unexpected in an MMO. It happens.

Stick with your role-playing circle, ignore all else. You only bring attention to yourself and invite ridicule with posts like this. If a Republic Trooper on a Sith Throne breaks your immersion and annoys you, then I submit your imagination, willpower, and tolerance are all weak.

"The small flaws of my personal character are too big for me to ignore, therefore, you must change the way you do things to suit me & my whims."
HAH Hah hah! Your attempts to change your reality with your words has failed.

I'm not even a role-player. I'm only concerned with the basic principles of game design.

And that's the first time I've had my imaginative powers called into question.
