Twinking ( which is what this thread was asking) For most older gamers, was just about over gearing your toon.

It has since changed in meaning. So some of us that saw this. ( older gamers ) had no idea that now it pertains to people leaving warzones.

So as a few have replied about the gear ( because that was what twinking was originally about)
Well twinking has always had a dual meaning.

It refers to over-gearing (or max gearing) a low level toon for PVE and/or PvP by whatever mechanisms a game allows.

It also refers to the practise of taking whatever steps are necessary to remain in a certain bracket for lower level PvP. Sometimes this might involve doing things which could break the T&Cs which is what I think the OP was asking. Some games realised that people enjoy twinking and introduced the ability to temporarily disable xp gains, which seems the best way to handle it and something they should consider here.

2 maraders L 40, both have L 39 gear, Mara1 is L 39 gear greens, Mara2 is L 39 purples, Mara2 will have more endurance, power, etc (asuming they use same type of mods, enhancments and armorings, but different quality) in WZ
Edit:it won't be much, nor game breaking difference.. jsut a bit.
Tracer Legacy, The Red Eclipse.
Not reading colored text, it hurts my eyes. Sorry (unless it's a dev post)

I don't think there is even gear twinking in this game. Just people that use their head and know how to gear and other people that have no clue what they are doing. I equip the best gear and stims on my shadow tank and since level 35 in wzs he has 20k+ hp. I have not yet seen anyone else in there near this total except in level 50 wzs. When I look at other players gear, it's **** and they have 11k - 15k hp. **** it. I don't know where I'm going with this. Just learn what gear your class / advanced class uses and use the best.

This is not an example of what twinking is at it's basic roots. Preventing yourself from leveling to gain advantages - is exploiting. And as you said, bannable.

If action that is bannable, doesn't fall under the umbrella of twinking. Twinking is, and always will be something that is legit... just not fair to the "normal" crowd.

Having a level 11 with an HK pet - full crit purple augmented gear on both him and pet... is more the definition of twinking - as far as this game is concerned - being all mob drops have level requirements - Kid.

Actually... it had nothing to do with wow.

I learned about twinking from EQ.

And when it was done there it had nothing to do with PvP.

AND... I did learn from this thread. But did not know I had to Learn this to play the game. Since it is ya know a term. used by some people. And as this thread shows, not all people.

( I was confused as well about it. It is not just over gearing your toon now)
Defined where?

Wikipedia disagrees. So does Urban Dictionary (standard disclaimer applies to accepting all definitions offered by UD). Here's a thread from D2/D3 that seems to show the same definition. WoWWiki agrees.

Now, I'm all for adaptive definitions, but so far as I can see, this perma-L49 definition was created just for this thread, and likely by people who re-used a word that they sorta-maybe thought they understood.

Can someone cite the "definition" of twink, beyond just making stuff up?

I was just going by what they were saying in this thread. If you go back you will see that My def. of twinking was pretty much the same as what you have provided.

I'm not one to ***** about terms for stuff changing when it comes to gaming... Hence why I was showing the other person that I guess it has changed.

Understood. I wasn't trying to attack you, more questioning everyone else in this thread. Like you, I'm fine with changing definitions, but it's far from helpful to change a definition just within a single thread.

Addressed to everyone else in the thread:

The core of twinking has always been the orchestrated gearing of a character so that it approaches best-in-category/best-in-level gear. Limiting level progression has long been recognized as a method for twinking, not twinking itself.

Redefining terms like this just leads to confusion and anger. I could just as well start a new thread titled "Bioware bans players for Roleplaying", and then later define the term "Roleplaying" to be the repeated verbal abuse of a player in the game. It's hyperbole, sure, but hopefully we can see the point. The whole point of adhering to existing definitions of words is to make it so that people can understand you. And as you can see in the thread, the majority of people still recognize the definition used from WoW all the way back through EQ and MUDs.

The only way to fix this, if you do consider it a problem is to take the expertise out of all gear level 49 and below or put expertise in all the pvp gear sold at the pvp vender ( which I think is the answer ), People will always find ways of getting a loop hole, and I see no reason why the pvp gear even at low levels shouldnt have expertise on it, it is in fact "pvp gear"
