By acceptable for them I don't mean "enough to survive" I mean it needs to be making one hell of a profit.

There is absolutely no way EA will sunset the game until the licensing is up.

To licence this game costs in the area of 15 million for ten years according to info we learned from swg.

EA will not re licence the IP after that if they arent making a profit though.

So basically we get to soldier through a game that is barely alive for the next 8 years.

It may be nobody wants to be heroes except when it doesn't count, when it isn't challenging, that people would rather fight "pretend evil" than the real thing, but I don't personally believe that. I still think people are better than that.

I could actually see Lucas Arts snatching it back, since they've already declared all Star Wars games from now on will be done in-studio. SWTOR was the last to be licensed out.

Nobody has to "soldier through" this game - if you're not having fun, don't play it. If it matters to you so much that you're playing an MMO that has more than a million subscribers, you only have one option.

I'm with you on this Hammerstein, and I fear this game won't last through 2013 either. I'd been overly positive about all the changes and up/downs we've all seen. I'm not one to gripe about the little things, but as the little things piled up on top of each other, my opinions have changed. I, like many of us, really hoped this game was going to be amazing. Sadly it's turned into a mess of bugs, stuttering lag, and now this FTP fiasco.

SWG----------------- 8 years played, 7 active accounts at June 2011.
SWTOR------------- 6 months played. BACK ONLY FOR PATCHS .

Someone like you, who constantly complains about a game, should probably find a game you actually enjoy and do not feel compelled to complain about in a gaming forum. Then again, you maybe you complain about every game in every gaming forum. Personally, I don't see the point, but you are free to do so I guess, as long as you stay within the forum rules.

Considering that LA has basically gutted and dismantled their native studio capabilities in the last few years, I don't see it happening.

Now, what they would likely do is to subcontract studio work to 3rd party studios (which is pretty much what they do today for all their new product development). It's studio virtualization, pretty much like conventional outsourcing.

However, that is essentially what they have done with SWTOR as an IP property....though they did it through a license rather then a straight work performance contract. The difference really is the profit profile and the risk/reward profile. Under the virtual studio subcontract model, LA would take all the risk and wearn all the rewards, whereas in the SWTOR model the risk/reward is much more shared between LA and Bioware. In the end, it would depend on what risks LA wanted to take for what reward potential. Honestly, hey vassilate all over the place on this as a company. In spirit... they want it all... but reality constantly bites them and forces them to constantly change course as a business. They really are not all that successful as a game producer if you look at their history (many many fumbles and missed opportunities over the years). LA is a revolving door for it's management team which is a lot of the problem IMO.
When you find yourself surrounded by hostile Clowns... always go for the "Juggler" first.
