IS there some reasoning here other than sticking it to free players? While they only have two characters per server (Legacy) anyway, why come up with ways to deter them spending money in the one spot that was designed for them to spend money?

If you want people to start forking over some serious real life coinage, make it more appealing, especially if you are promoting 12 character slots for subscribers.
While I acknowledge what you are saying, I think the EA/BW approach may be: "If someone really wants the same look on more than one legacy character, it shouldn't be a big deal to spend $1.50 worth of coins on a chest piece, especially when we are giving subscribers $5.00 worth a month. They may end up spending more than the $5.00 allocation, then, depending on the month." I am of course assuming 500 CC is ~ $5.00.

Also, all these armor pieces are likely going to end up on the GTN. There will be an alternative to directly purchasing them.

Ah, see I've been looking at it from the other end of the scale, on bigger ticket items like 1200 CC for a whole armor set, or 900 CC for a crystal. I can see with most of the items being lower cost, especially the Cartel Packs, they wouldn't want most of those to be passed down since the replacement is a much smaller cost/loss. Speeders being the other big ticket item are also converted into an 'ability' anyway so it is moot there. Still, I always thought that the last thing you want people to do is feel like they wasted money when your whole model is to get them to keep spending.

So I'm confused, if you are wearing the item when the timer runs out is it character bound?
When the timer runs out and your character has never worn it, is it not bound?
When the timer runs out and your character is not wearing it (but wore it previously) is it bound?

IMO they should all be bound or legacy bound, I don't like they idea of them being sold on the GTN in 5 days.

If you equip or alter the item in any way, it becomes permanently bound. If you leave it be for a few days, it becomes unbound.

I dont think they should be Bound to legacy. there is already a ton of legacy gear as is and the gear is only bound to you for 5 days after opening the box. has been said that it is wrong for people who are subbed as they will have a lower timer on the bound stuff

the gear/crystals only bind to you once you modify them. if you dont touch them you can send them to alts or friends. You cant expect them to give something that you only need one of. otherwise people would only open boxes to get that one thing they wanted and never buy one again. The game may be going F2P but they still have to make money somewhere and those crime lord boxs are a great way to appeal to peoples OCD
The Dragneel Legacy
Exit Area
Z'arex Wing'Zero FyreByrd
My Stream Dragonslayer / Revanchist / The Eternal Warrior
5/5 HM Ravagers 5/5 HM Temple

A ton? I'm only aware of a few sets:
The first 2 events
The legacy vendor items, most of which are garbage

Is there something else or do these just weight alot?

K that's what I thought, thanks for the clarification.

Thinking through this some more here's what I think.
I think when they do bind they should be bind on legacy, but the option to not have them bind at all should be left. This will make things easier to attain, but it will also make it so if you get stuff you don't like from the random bags you can sell it still and not be a total loss.

Everything in the game should be BoL, in my opinion.
