Sounds similar to SWG. Minus the difficulty... it was a major grind. It would take one person MONTHS to even have a chance at becoming a Jedi.

Then came NGE and thus making the few people who sat at their computers for months on end extremely angry to see all their hard work turn to dust.

Newsflash OP: BH isn't the best gear.

Tears and Blood, I support. But the reason end-game gearing is now extremely fast is because of the end-game schematics being r/ed ffrom player-made items and flooding the server for stupidly low prices.

Maybe that wouldn't be such a big deal if there were other ways to improve your character, their ship, or whatever, but gear is largely the be all and end all of character progression at the moment. It's a system that is fun for a short period and then quickly gets boring.

Slowing down gear progression gives people a carrot to keep playing and something to brag about. Call it epeen or whatever, but if people have put forth time and effort for some item, be that gear, a mount, a title, whatever, then it's an outward sign to other players of their achievement. Human beings are competitive critters. We tend to spend a lot of time and effort proving we're better than other people, even at something relatively unimportant like playing a game. Making it so easy for everyone to achieve the top gear reminds me of those fake sporting events where everyone gets a medal. Thanks for participating.

And once a ops team is tricked out in the best stuff, why continue running ops? Sure, it can be fun to blow through content with friends, but there's no goal to hit, no loot to hope for, no achievement to be had. And at that point, people stop playing their mains. They level the alts they're interested in (which they can gear up even faster), and then they stop playing those. And then they stop playing all together. Which is where a lot of the players are at.

I like that it's easy to get op-functional, but the best gear should be more of a struggle, based on long grinds, weeks' worth of wipes, lucky drops, and so forth. Tears and blood, people! Tears and blood!

well if youre going through content that quickly then theres something on your side. Try ops with less than your best gear, try it with pugs rather than guildies, try not relying on your gear to do things for you .. get equivalent gear but without the set bonuses.
To be honest, if you find the game so very easy then i would remove your macros and special keyboards/mouse and actually give yourself a challenge based on the game basics.
The vast majority dont want an ultra-difficult game, we just want to enjoy the ride.
i havent even done an 8man yet, utter fear of ventrillo/teamspeak prevents me from doing that, but maybe you shouldnt rush through a game if you want to enjoy it.

I'll tell you why. TOR is a lvl-based & gear-dependent game. Once new content comes out or the lvl cap increases yesterday's "Best Gear" becomes trivialized compared to the "New Gear"; Say they come out with an expansion and raise max lvl to 60. -Now all that lvl 50 BH and Camp gear is trivial and comparable to lvl 60 greens.

lol.Sorry but these are pixels so I don't know how you came up with the tears and blood. This is a game and sitting at a desk pushing some buttons is really not that tough.Maybe if you put a heat lamp near you.At least you could possible sweat.I swear people get out of the house once in a while.Let me repeat it is a game.People ,play games for fun.Now in this game you have the choice how you play it.You don't have the choice how someone else does. Why is this overwhelming need of some people to control others. If you think the game is to easy and gear to accessible then you can sell the rewards.Go in the level of gear that you believe should be available at your level.
Make a choice for yourself.Let others do the same.

If getting gear is the only carrot this game offers, and gear has to be made harder just to keep people playing this title is in real trouble.

Sorry Op, gotta disagree with ya on this one. I'm a solo player...and I don't really have alot of time to play for hours on end, or wait for raids and stuff. I get my armour upgrades through the gtn and decent ones are usually over the million credit mark, and more often than not, closer to 2 mill or more, per piece...x 3 pieces per each piece of armour. I can usually earn about a million every 4-5 days to buy one piece.

As far as I'm concerned, my gear is covered in blood, sweat and tears, cause it is boring as galactic f*** to grind the same 5 dailies on 8 different toons, every day. There is nothing 'super fast' about my progression. It's a little like slow torture, especially cause I have so many toons to gear up. Does it make you feel better to know I'm suffering? LOL.

I'm going to have to disagree with you.
I like many people here have a job and a life so frankly your proposal would simply eliminate me from all endgame activities.

currently the best gear is difficult enough to get .

How do I know?

simple

I don't have any.

Do I feel that I could get it?

Yes.
