Rolling need for your companions in flashpoints, acceptable or loot ninja?

I think rolling need on items for companions without prior discussion from the group is basically stealing unless your companion is in the group with you because they're contributing to the progress of the Flashpoint just like everyone else is.

Player charcters > NPCs. If you say otherwise then you're just being pretty selfish and probably aren't suited for an MMO because they require teamwork with other players to achieve the most difficult goals.

Sometimes it's better to put the needs of others before your own selfish gain.

You know, it seems to me that 90% of the issues I've seen come up already in this game...and frankly in almost any game...could be resolved quite simply with common courtesy. Most of the time no one would care if you needed something for your companion since it's not better than what you're using and no one in the group can use it anyway. So in those situations a simple question resolves it, the group says it's fine any you move on, no harm, no foul.

In the situation you described where he was rolling for his companion against an actual player, that's a load. But unfortunately, this goes back to why we need governments and police forces. Most people are generally good...but in any sufficiently large group, particularly where people believe they have some form of "protection" such as anonymity, there will always be jerks. This is why hardcore gaming guilds always used assigned loot where the raid leader dished out the loot and no one else could. Because they could weigh the decision and give it to the person that most deserved it.

I guess the short version is that you have to find people you trust to play with and avoid the ones you can't. Unfortunately it's still early in the game and we haven't had the chance to build those relationships fully yet. Give it time and you'll find people with whom you'll never have this issue and those will be the people you play with.

Wanna say thanks to the new guild mate whom called me a ninja looter then joined my guild so he could complain. I get so tired of people calling me a ninja looter. I have equal right to roll for an item whether I want to sell the item, wear it or RE it. It's mine, I fought for it, I rolled for it, who the heck are you to tell me how to use it? I'm nearly 40 years old and if there is one thing I have come to understand it's this: no matter what system you create, no matter how many rules you put into said system, somebody will want to do things against the flow and then complain when others don't follow. I feel like I'm not entitled to loot because I never know who will challenge me for taking it. I do not want to have to follow unwritten rules or be punished for breaking them.

If I don't outfit my companion I'm dead. Simple as that. I need really good gear, the best the game can provide me, for both myself, my companion, my wallet, my library of mats, all of it. If I don't need it now, I will tomorrow. DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO WITH MY ROLLS!

what a load. Your intention is that your motive is better then another persons motive thus they have broken a rule. A rule that nobody can agree too and that isn't even breaking a game mechanic. The police are the game mechanics. Everything else is fair game. Not that there is a right or wrong, those have been removed. Anything considered unfair has been removed from the game, thus all that remains is fair, up too and including deciding to keep loot that you win in a roll. The roll is the great equalizer. On one side you have your podium, your unadorned companion and your high sense of proper looting mechanics, on the other side is me, I want to sell everything in the game so I can give the cash away at fleet. Neither position is right or wrong, just two opposing position with the same goal. Obtain the loot. Thus we roll and a winner is declared. That aught to be the end of it. Saying anything at all, calling someone a ninja looter, walking away sore, anything other then contentment of a fair shake at the same item, is just plain wrong and what I call a poor loser. Your mad because you lost the roll. Ok so I didn't even care about owning the item, doesn't matter, I still won. My choice, I get to choose. Next roll, you win, you choose and I say nothing. Deal?

This is why we should not have cross-server group finder. The problem that you faced, would be even more rampant with cross-server.

Rolling need for companions is not acceptable unless that person asked and everyone was ok with it.

Like most have said the simple solution is ask. Common courtesy is always good and that means asking what the rules are before you start the mission.

If rules are established before hand there shouldn't be a problem and if someone breaks the rule give one warning the next time when you are removing them remind them why.

YOU NEED IT.

Anyone who says otherwise is a crybaby who doesn't want to lose the odd roll. What makes your player more important than my companion? What makes ME more important than YOUR companion? NOTHING AT ALL!!!
Lol...see what happend when you have x-server LFG...more anonimous (spelling) players work this behaviour in hand...

Those peeps only think "if i can press need, then im entitled to it" no matter what...

If it's for my class and I really need it -> Need

If it's for my class but I don't really need it -> Greed

If my companion could use it and no one else in the group can use it, I'll ask if I can need it.
They say yes -> Need
They say no -> Greed

In doubt -> Pass

It's that simple.
