Yeah, the game certainly launched into a period of relative economic weakness. Incomes have been going down for well over a decade, but more recently the housing bust and stagnant unemployment certainly contribute to a general sense of malaise. Meaning possibly all the lost subs for WoW, SW:TOR and other games is potentially just due to household's interest in saving more.

Is it possible all the people who are citing the lost subscribers as a "Bioware-fail" are missing the big picture?

I read your post and was honestly surprised by your experience--the Origin servers are supposed to be locked (they all show as grey and locked on my login screen) and have been for weeks. Bioware announced after the July 30th cut-off for transfers (the one that gave people the gannifari pets and Black Hole commendations) they'd be doing that. Then why would you be able to create a new character there?

It sounds more like a weird confluence of circumstances to me, unless someone else has also been able to create a character on an Origin server they don't already havea character on in the past few days...

If you have at least one character on origin servers you can still create new ones. You have access to this server.
Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic.

The game hasn't even been out a full year lol. Give it a chance.

You can always quit for a while and come back later. :/

Possible, and but unlikely. Mmos are cheap entertainment.

While I'm sure it is a factor, I highly doubt it is responsible for all lost subs of this game, and all the lost subs of WoW.

Regardless of how broke we are, we will find a way to pay for what we enjoy. Even more so in times of stress. Whether it be a 9 dollar box of cigarettes, that number 9 at burger king, or a monthly subscription of an MMO.

Also, remember that the average person does not know how to manage their money correctly.

You'd be surprised how many people will say "I'll put that on my credit card" before they say, "I can't afford this right now."

What they should do is use the Guild Message of the Day pop-up functionality to have a pop-up appear the moment you log in (telling you that free transfers are available) and get rid of the fifteen minute interval messages that just annoy players still playing on those servers. That would solve the problem with returning players coming into origin servers unknowingly and the problem of players getting annoyed because this stupid message pops up right in the middle of other important game play.

That's what I think.

Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive.

That's the point I was trying to make. Too many people pick on the little things and let it ruin their experience, then they rage on forums and bring others down too. That in turn leads to the PERCEPTION that the game is dead. It turns off new people to the game because clearly if it's in the forums it must be true.
Well that's the thing isn't it? To the person complaining, their compliant probably has merit to them. Who are we to judge what is important to someone else?

And I would say the million + players who have left have far more of a impact on the perception of the game then the forums do. These forums are nothing unusual....people complain about the game, and the people who like the game complain about the people complaining. It happens in every game.
