Why i think SWTOR is the best MMO (List)

For me SWTOR is still my main game right now.

What's with people on this forum promoting GW2? I don't like WoW anymore and for the life of me I can't think why I'd go back to their forums and bash WoW and promote another game. Is this how social network promotions work now days?
It was better story? I really can't believe that, because:
  1. the name of the game . . . guild wars, a game term . . . and fighting, no secondary title indicating what this game is about,
  2. On their website the about the game section says nothing about the story. So even the game designers don't feel itt's worth mentioning.
Seriously, I'd like to hear this games awesome story writing. I won't be playing it. I too have no interest in playing another fantasy game I'd have to pay anything for. If you can't see the difference I'm sure explaining it won't help.

The reason this game existed is because people begged Bioware for an MMO version of KotOR. How is SWTOR not that? I have played quite a few MMORPGs, and this game is pretty darn good. Is EA messing it up, yes, I must agree, is it still a good game with potential? Yes.
Even if this game was perfect people would still be quiting for one reason or another. A lot of other good games are coming out now. People complaining here are the same people that will complain about whatever game they are praising now because they will get nerfed, they will find things they hate about the other game and it's team.

Ahhh, I just realized I'm complaining about complaining XD at least I have a good reason to be here, I still like this game.

The repetition of this game is astounding sometimes.
Do you realize you only have to do about half of the games content? Especially if you play rested, and do Space missions and operations. I'm about half way through Corellia, just hit 49, skipped about half of the content, never did any space missions, no PVP and only a few Flashpoints. If you do all the content, you out level it, get less XP, get gear lower than your level and will hit 50 way before Corellia.

Wrong. People wanted KoToR 3, not an MMO.

This is true, and although I hope they do make KotOR 3 (or maybe Obsidian could or something) I am glad they made this game.

I like playing MMOs. I usually don't like multiplayer games all that much but for some reason I keep coming back to MMOs. The problem for me was I kept bouncing between different free to play ones and never really stuck with any game. I played WoW for a while (up to...level 73 I think) but I just couldn't force myself to keep playing.

With SWTOR its different. This is still the only MMO I've ever gotten to level cap in and that is primarily because it is so much fun. The story is the best in any MMO I've played and, while not being as good as some single player games, is really engaging. The loot grind at end game isn't great, but I think the rest of the game more than makes up for this fact.

Swtor tried to mix mmo and single player and wound up with a mediocre version of both you have to pay to play.

It's the perfect game for rich star wars fans who only get to play an hour a day before bed.

Tbh I wud not call this game the best MMO, moreover I wudnt call any game "the best" as that's a matter of taste and depends on ppl's choice.
I like the game because it's Star Wars! If it wasn't SW, but any other sci-fi related thing still wud play because as the OP said I'm pretty bored of sword and board style fantasy games. The only thing that wud cause me leave that game wud be loosing my community (friends) ingame or a better made sci-fi.

SW:TOR is far from the best, but I believe it is surviving because it is the middle ground. For example:

* LOTRO has far superior combat mechanics for PvE. Each class is vastly differenct to all the other classes compared to here where they all play exactly the same. There is a much greater focus on teamplay (buffs, buffs) and tanking actually takes skill.

* WoW has a much more fleshed out endgame. Admittedly, I don't play WoW but from everything I've heard, there is simply much more to do at endgame

* WAR had far superior pvp mechanics: player collision, much greater team cohesion, much more enjoyable and worthwhile world pvp, greater choice for warzones.

* Eve / SWG have/had far greater crafting systems and economies

* LOTRO has a far better story than TOR. If you actually read the quests in LOTRO, they are vastly superior to here. The epic questlines in particular have much better story telling that in TOR.

HOWEVER, TOR fills the middle ground. Whilst LOTRO may have better pve combat mechanics, they suck for pvp and the pvp in lotro is seriously stale and unbalanced. WAR had excellent PvP mechanics and much better pvp in general, but the solo and pve side was basically missing. Eve/SWG were great but both are/were soooo time consuming and complicated that most people couldn't be bothered. WoW may have great endgame, but its generic cartoony fantasy, not sci-fi.

TOR has a bit of everything going for it, even though every single feature in this game has been done better by someone else.

Currently retired due to poor design decisions within the game that have killed its longevity. Get rid of Hickman before he ruins the game completely!

Haha, totally. I mean, why should I even bother playing PVP if I can't just stand at objectives, and farm comms! You want me to actually have to deal intelligently with stuns, heals, and things that don't involve spamming damage at people? (I know you were being sarcastic btw, thought it was funny).

As far as best MMO, ultimately the best MMO will be the one where you have fun goofing off with other people. It is massively multiplayer after all. Thank god someone finally posted a thread that wasn't just whining about Bioware not tailoring every aspect of the game to their own particular character or playstyle - kudos OP.

I have to say, I know MMOs have come a long way since the first EQ and WoW, but until this game I was never really engaged by them. In most cases there's not a story for the character I've designed, only for the world my character is in, and while that works for some people, I'd rather play as a character who has an impact on the world around him, rather than just running around, killing 25 (insert medieval fantasy creature here) without reason or purpose other than just getting to the max level and getting shiny gear. I want to be immersed in the world, and so far SW:TOR is the only one that has done that for me.
