Hi all!

Kinda sad that my first post as a user of this forum is to seek aid in my plight, but I hope to get back to playing as soon as possible.

Okay, about a week ago I found out about the level 15 free trial for SW:TOR and thought I'd give it a try, and have been enjoying it ever since, quite a lot. More than I expected to be honest. I am slow going and casual, only a level 7 Imperial Agent and a level 10 Jedi Knight so far, plus a brand new level 1 Smuggler, but I digress.

Now let me stress that I had *no* issues with the game, from a technical standpoint, none, it worked beautifully. Up until two days ago. Two days ago it all changed. Now I am plagued with graphics glitches, I'll call it tearing, or warping, whatever the term, it is game breaking for me. NPCs flicker in and out of existance, and when they do appear, often it is in grotesquely distorted shapes, all sharp and jagged. My own brand new Smuggler, upon drawing his blaster, will have this immense spike sticking out of his head as he runs around. The trusty droid for my Jedi, T7, looked like a floating amalgamation of blue and white, a literal mass of disarray.

For a time I thought it was only the visual that was hindering my game experience, but now the sound is cutting out at seemingly random intervals. And not one part of it, all sound and music. Conversations progress a few lines then go deathly silent, the sounds of combat will cease as well. It doesn't seem to be affected by motion or anything like that.

Now, images to showcase the problems.

Even character creation/select is not safe from these horrors.

I've lurked around the forums for a bit before subscribing (Which I did for the sole purpose of trying to find help.) and have tried several methods in the hopes of getting even the smallest improvements, to no avail. I have tried tweaking the graphics settings, low to high and everything in between, resolution changes, V-sync on and off, reparing the installation, fixing the launcher, redownloading and reinstalling completely, upgrading my drivers, then reverting to my previous drivers (Which did work when I first started playing.) when the new ones had no effect, now back on the new just because. I deleted the ArenaCache file, the SWTOR folder from my user folder, cleared up as much memory as possible. And I have encountered not one iota of change thus far, in the issues that have arisen.

I at first thought that perhaps my video card could be the issue, but the sound cutting out seems to add too many pieces to the puzzle for that to be the case... But I don't know. That is why I am here.

So please, if you have any insights into this mess, I dearly need some help! Thank you!

Hi The_Thief,

In order to assist us investigating this issue, please post your DxDiag here.

Before you post it, please remove your PC Name from the DxDiag.

Please post the DxDiag within code tags or spoiler tags

Go to Start menu:
  1. Type dxdiag into the Search/Run box
  2. Select the "Save All Information" button
  3. This will create a dxdiag.txt file(Please remove your PC Name before posting)
Thank you for your assistance.

Hi again The_Thief,

From looking at your DxDiag there are a few things I can see that you will need to address.

Firstly, your version of windows does not have the required Service Pack 1 installed. This service pack contains C++ and .netframeworks that the game needs to run correctly.

As for the sound, I can see that your sound drivers are over 3 years old. It would be worth while updating these as this may be causing or adding to your issue.

Let me know how you get on with this.

Thank you.

Before I head to bed for the night, I am posting my fresh DxDiag. I got the latest audio drivers and SP 1 for Windows 7 all done. I will try some NPC conversations tomorrow to see if the sound issue is fixed as a result, but the graphics remain unchanged. Still a mess of flickering obtrusions.

I do appreciate the help I have received thus far! Says a lot when help comes pretty darn quick.

P.S - The drivers for my headset remain unchanged, because those appear to be the latest drivers for them anyway.

Okay, I hate to post twice in a row but I felt it was warranted. Just for gits and shiggles I will post another DxDiag report.

But at my brother's suggestion I format my computer to start completely from scratch. Clean hard drive, latest drivers, clean install of Windows 7 and SW:TOR, everything I thought I could do to remedy my problems. And I have had absolutely no luck at all. In fact the graphics issues seem worse login to login, today for instance one of my characters was a warped mass of textures from the get-go.

So I really am at a loss as to how it could work for a few days, go all crazy, then continue being poor performance after a format and clean install. If it were hardware related I would imagine more computer actions would go wrong. But I am open to suggestion.

DxDiag follows.

Hi The_Thief,

You mentioned that you did a fresh install of SWTOR and you are experiencing continued graphical issues after this.

It is possible that this could be due to corrupted files and so you might benefit from running a repair of the launcher.

To do this, please click on the cogwheels on the launcher then click on the repair option. You need to be logged in in order to run a repair.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, I did as you suggested and did the full repair scan.

No dice. Still an amalgamated mess for my characters. So no discernable change.

Hi The_Thief,

It has been noted on the forum that the 12.8 drivers which you are using are not necessarily the most optimal for the game.

I suggest that you do a fresh install of driver 12.6 which you will find on the AMD website.

Please keep us up to date with your progress.

Uninstalled my 12.8 drivers using ATIman Uninstaller, then ran CCleaner for good measure, installed fresh 12.6 drivers, and repaired the SW:TOR launcher once again.

No change. Took some screenshots and could run another DxDiag if it'd help.
