I don't power off/reboot computer usually for the weeks. GTS 450 drops frequency to minimal possible (working speed is about 780MHz but when it is not used - frequency is less than 100, and it drops to this value) until reboot. Any other game/program keeps lowest frequency as well. It happened 2 times already during last 3 weeks. Drivers are latest, windows 7 x64. Card is new so no way to have dust or whatever. Temperatures are good usually.

Any ideas why can it be ? I saw same problems by google but nobody wrote good solution.

P.S. Also I have google chrome opened with 3d acceleration enabled and game in window mode. With old card chrome could drop fps too for the game somehow.

Greetings Alexzk,

To explain why this may be happening, each tab opened in Google Chrome is its own process. Having several tabs open running 3d intensive applets, for example (videos and browser games) will likely have a negative impact on game performance, and as a result lower FPS.

I advise trying to close down unnecessary tabs while playing to increase performance in game. If this does not work, turning off shadows in game can usually offer a massive performance increase.

I hope this solves your issue and should you require any further assistance, don't hesitate to let me know here.

Thank you.

Well, it is not just FPS drop. It drops working frequency like in "power save" mode it do always, it is normal when no games are running but sometimes it never returns it back to high value needed for the game until reboot. And this causes FPS drop.

On some forum I met mention it is 2D/3D modes switch, where 2D is low frequency and 3D high. So why it happens here? Card stucks into "2D" mode till reboot.

Hey again alexzk,

This appears to be an issue with your GTS 450 as you experiance it across all games. I would suggest contacting your graphics cards / computer manufacturers or Nvidia support, which can be found here:

Hopefully they are able to guide and troubleshoot your issue. If there is anything I can further assist with please let me know.

Thank you for your time and patience.
