Its all opinion. A happy compromise is a simple check box in the prefrence menu. People like me, who like them, can enable them and people like you, who don't, can leave them off.

Then you turn them off.

I'm not saying they are more efficent than a text box, I'm saying for in-game character communication they are better than a text box (which is basically like two people sat in a pub, at the same table, texting each other for some inexplicable reason ).

You see people "speaking"so you don't just run past them only to look at your text box a few mins later only to realise they WERE talking to you.

Now as I mentioned above fully voiced character interaction would be much better....... but that is NOT coming to MMORPGs anytime soon, so in the meantime chat-bubbles have an important role to play.
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

they have that... in APB there was locational voice chat... as in when you used the in-game VO anyone close to you could hear you talking while those who weren't could not... it was nothing but annoying because every other person seemed to not know how to control their PCs volume so it was all double feedback and people music blaring
"bibo ergo sum" ( I drink, therefore I am)

Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy other people to shoot at.

Interesting, I was meaning character voiced chat, but that could be a mid-step.

But as you (and I have said) it's a long way from coming at all, and in a decent way.......... so for the foreseeable future it's chat-bubbles.

Sad but true, UI frames are really hurting the framerate a lot.

Uhh, I have chat filters and several chat windows I set up. That doesn't happen to me.

I also change channel colors for visual representation so I can organize my streams.

I've spent days watching network traffic over wireshark. I know how to stream.

Yep, you can be as good as you like with chat-boxes............. but you'll still never notice people speaking if you're just looking at their character with chat-boxes, you will with chat-bubbles.

THIS^

Also they had damn well better fix Kira's lightsaber bug and the music that never plays before we get Chat Bubbles back.

I can read names, can't I?

I have situational awareness of who is near me in spatial channels, don't I?
