Yes it was a giant sandbox and that was it's only real saving grace however. People want content given to them and not forced to make their own content.

Here watch this. this is a video of the mission terminals. This is how you got quests for SWG. This was it

EVERY MISSION WAS THE SAME! The only difference was in what you killed.

lets talk about Armor and custimization which is another HUGE thing that MMO players like

Here is a list of the armor that was in SWG up until The Trials of Obi Wan ie the CU upgrade and NGE

THAT IS IT. Nothing else.

Lets talk about basic features.

Group finder? NO GROUP FINDER IN SWG

PVP Warzones? NOPE.

Balance? Absoultely not. SWG was one of the most UNBALACED games ever. A Combat medic was one of the most deadlist classes as it could kill anyone in 2 shots by attacking their mind points.
Stop with the offtopic. This thread isnt about the BAD THINGS ABOUT SWG. ITS ABOUT THE GOOD THINGS OF SWG THAT COULD BE IMPLEMENTED IN SWTOR TO MAKE IT BETTER. get the point or just dont post crap

ps : group finder kinda sucks and takes away from the virtual live world experience but thats a topic for a different thread

Speeder bikes were fast.

Im not really that upset over current speeds, but the top end bikes could use a way to upgrade to boost speed.

Multi-crew vehicles

Yes. Especially considering there is no summon feature in this game, a crew vehicle could help with running heroics and the like.

Housing

Ive said it many times. Our spaceships should be our homes, with the ability to decorate the interior SWG housing style, NO HOOKS. SWG allowed you to drop an object in the house and move it forward, back, left, right, up, down and rotate left or right (later they added "pitch" and "yaw" controls) a specified distance, simple numbers. So you would highlight the object, type /move forward 10 and the object would move forward 10 units.

Essentially it was the same tool devs used to decorate the world, and it was, hands down the best housing experience I have ever had. People got quite creative with decorating, it represented its own minigame, and there was a huge area of the game devoted to questing for decoration, crafting them, gaining trophies to display, etc.

Cantinas were social hotspots

Getting a buff to XP or endurance (health) by spending time in the canteena could help populate them. They could also offer canteenas as smuggling mission pickup points, bounty pickup points, investigation points for Jedi/Agents and Trooper R&R minigame portals. Then adding chat bubbles would round out the mix.

In-depth character skill system

I think this is a good idea, though I would caution it should not be THAT complicated. Not as varied as our own, but something should be in place.

Best crafting and resource system except for maybe EVE

I would agree here. Companions are our factories/harvesters, and Im fine with that, but it is TOO hands off to really invest in the system. Gathering resources should be a more straightforward "send on mission" mechanic.

You could get ranks in the Empire/Rebels and recruit troopers to help you.

This is a big one. Gaining faction ranks as an Imperial or Republic could go toward faction gear and discounts...but you choose to do so.

You could tame a RANCOR - or even better bioengineer one - and it also hit like one (not like the silly companions).

I would like to see some kind of creature handler and droid designer in this game. Both would make great companions and/or pets, and of course the creatures could be mounts.

Being a jedi actually felt powerful and meant something.

This has a bit to do with too much gather and not enough drama. Might be difficult to fix this one.

Multi-crewable spaceships you could run around in while you were IN COMBAT.

They need to add multiplayer to current space missions (turret play and more than one ship in the pipe) and also a BF2 style space battleground. Small areas to explore outside fleet areas would be nice as well.

Gambling
Spice
Bounties

Definitely needs swoop racing, pazzak, etc. Spice could be an alternate buff like it was in SWG. I would suggest Bounties for NPCs as generated missions however.

you're the one who said if SWG came back with better graphics it would kill SWTOR. I'm just tell you that you are clearly wrong. I'm using facts and showing you that there is no way SWG would be able to surrvive. The only reason it lasted so long is because Sony wanted to have as many games on it's Station Pass as possible. If it was run by one company then it would have been shut down long a go.

You might hate group finder but the public demand it.

Yes it would be nice to add Jump To light Speed space in SWTOR (and who knows that could be what they are working on) and it would be nice to custimize our space ship interor but you are still clearly looking at SWG with rose colored glasses.

I have to counter a bit. First, this game could use mission terminals. In fact, its one easy way to add content for the PVE crowd without the VO cost. So that would actually BENEFIT this game.

As to the armor? This game reuses quite a bit of armor, and at least in SWG you could have come kind of an effect on stats. Despite very few armor designs the armor market in the game was robust, crafting armor was one way to make credits in a reliable fashion. This game, not so much. Something between this game and SWG, or better yet all armor as Orange armor (slicable) would have been the best way to go.

Obviously group finder and PVP warzones are important, but a caveat here...both are broken in this game. Not sure how to cover that point, but it's there. If your going to add the feature at least do it properly.

It's hard for me to understand how ANY sandbox feature added to a themepark game "ruins" the game for themepark fans. One thing I do know is that pure themepark isnt filling the seats. The game has lost over half its playerbase in less than a year. Thats massive. And thats themepark OR pure sandbox. You should have a combo of both.

The game does use mission terminals. Thankfully they're somewhat varied.

The gear market in this game is actually pretty fast. Easy to make a profit if you know what you're doing. The game is getting more oranges as it goes along. Also I would hope anything that affects game balance is not taken from SWG.

I don't think anyone has said that adding any nonspecific sandbox feature to a themepark game would "ruin" it. Some however would probably have a negative impact. The current crafting system for example, is one of the most accessible of any game. Its virtue is that it lacks the same complexity and difficulty of crafting in other games. Most people have a crafting skill maxed on at least one character. Everyone in my guild has crafting skills maxed. With an EVE or SWG style crafting system, we just wouldn't be able to make the time and investment effort to craft. A lot of people who craft today and enjoy it would not be able to with their current time and effort investments. Player bounties easily lead to griefing. Having Jedi by a powerful(read overpowered) rare class like it was in SWG for some time, does not work in this setting, does not work with the class story system, and is frankly bad for game balance in a game that seriously tries to achieve game balance. Unfortunately when I asked the OP to detail his suggestions more thoroughly, so that an attempt could be made to try and account for these potential problems, he told me to leave his thread.

i played swg for 5 years religiously, i played kotor and kotor 2.

i play swtor because of two reasons, its star wars and because i really loved the kotor games. While i did enjoy swg it was a different game made by different companies.

Feeling powerful and being technically overpowered with abilities are 2 different things. You can leave the thread now

Ok I was almost on board with you until this. SWGEMU is available. It is fairly well populated but the community is horrid. Galaxies would not kill TOR. This is not and never will be SWG2. Player bounties are forced pvp that wouldnt work unless you can completely opt out of the system.

I agree with the fact that ships should be decoratable (made up word?)

I understand you're trying to make suggestions to improve the game but to say that Galaxies would outperform TOR is foolish. Go play the EMU if you doubt me. I did and as soon as I maxed my template I got bored and quit.

They need to be expanded. In fact they could alien dialog to add cut scenes, droid sounds, even use some standard lines and answers (the game has a massive amount of VO after all) to spice them up.

Getting more as it "goes along" (no offense intended) it not cutting it. All needs to be orange yesterday. The system was broken when the game launched and remains so. It is a convoluted mess....and of course that's just my opinion, I speak for no one else.

This is assuming the added feature replaces the current feature. At least from my perspective the only real game change comes from the complete destruction of the horrid armor system in place now by making all gear orange moddable gear (sliceable) and focusing on mod acquisition instead of gear. The idea is to add sandbox features to supplement current features, not replace them.

Though I like the R/P/S approach to balance, I will say that having SWGs overpowered class system is not a good idea, and therefore have to agree there. I think ANY class should have the ability to be powerful in certain ways under certain CIRCUMSTANCES, but not all the time.

For instance, the most powerful physics and object manipulation should come from force users. Explosive physics obviously should be Troopers and BH, precision and distance from agents and interrupts/stuns/locks from Smugglers. That means on certain battlefields or under certain Warzone conditions ALL classes would get the chance to be overpowered. Just my take of course.
