You can think of it like a building built on an unsolid foundation. You can go in and try to build that foundation up but everything above it is already dependent on the unsolid foundation and moving things around causes walls to come crashing down. It's far easier and more efficient to just pour a solid foundation and build atop that.

You can think of code like that. The engine is a series of functions that all do different things, and BW essentially wrote all their code based on those functions (which don't allow for 200v200). If you wanna go back now and change those core engine functions, everything dependent on it comes crashing down and you have to rewrite it all over again.
I don't think either one of us can say for certain how strong the engine framework is. For all we know, the framework could be almost exactly the same between TOR's and the newest iteration of HERO.

That would make it a very strong foundation. But, again, neither of us knows.

But we should be able to make an accurate prediction about its framework based upon what we have seen it perform over these last 6 months.
Date Joined: March 2009 - Date unsubbed: 9/18/2012
It's been real but the game just wasn't worth the sub for me anymore.

The stop-calls for I/O aren't part of the framework, and is what is causing/did cause much of the issues of lag in populated areas. It can be changed/improved without changing much of the engine foundation at all.

As far as how much of the framework BioWare actually changed, I cannot say. I do know that they said they made "extensive modifications" to the engine, though how much of that involved the framework I cannot say.

But the topic we're speaking of, the possibility of 200v200, has very little to do with the framework, I think.

Why no news? Cause it's an expansion. Definitely

If it's as big as some people here are dreaming it'll be, I'd be OK with it being an 'expansion'.

I'd be happy with it being an expansion, but I'd just like to here some news about even if its just a "yeah we're still working on it" kinda thing.

If the Dev Tracker was working, I'd direct you there. They did state definitively, just like 7-10 days ago, that they ARE still working on it. What "it" is remains the big secret.
