Eve?

Depends-are you talking about the films that are at least 10 years old, or the garbage novels that keep being published?

I'm just saying that the days of anything with the SW brand being an automatic succes because of the SW brand are long gone.

I'd bet the subscriber numbers wouldn't be any lower with a non-Star Wars license.

This game is a huge flop.
This. This game is not an MMO, and if they had instead designed and marketed it as KOTOR 3, $75 a box, with optional online play options it would have been a huge success. The only controversy would have been the box price, and the initial reviews would have carried it without a problem. Instead, you have a game that appeals to single player RPGers, many of whom don't play MMOs and don't understand why so many of us are so angry about how the game turned out. In a nutshell, this game is a great single player RPG with multiplayer options, and not a true MMO. Unless they perform a massive overhaul of the game, it will always be a failure.
Edited because the devs appear to have fixed at least 80% of the crap that was pissing me off.

It must be sci-fi, it has "Space" in the title!

I know some will not like me saying this, but I am going to anyways, if swg was still online right now id be over there in a heart beat. Despite the poor animations on the force user class, and the fact that the only viable dps spec for commando used heavy weapons, that did not feel very star wars like. I would go back to swg this instant.

I look at my swtor toons, and I think to myself oh joy one path of level 1 to 50, and pvp/flashpoints at the end. They can add 10 more levels to the game, add more single player space missions, add new flashpoint, and add a new warzone The single path remains. Level to max level do ether pvp or flashpoints the end. What do I have to look forward to event wise? Some lame events with a small amount of rp given the game design. With small plants. Oh lets not forget your stats are split in two you ether have to do pvp or pve.

Now lets look at swg. I can make a toon he can join the Empire, or the Rebellion. Now what do I have to do? I can level my toon 1-90. I can fly many space missions, and group up with other people doing them in a full space sim. I can pick a spot for my house with great scenery and decor the hell out of it. Later on I can move my house into a pob if I choose. I can do some limited pvp or limited heroics, but the truth is pvp and instances are always limited. They are limited by there number, and no company can bring enough of them out to keep people satisfied for a long period of time. A space sim and being able to decor buildings can. Not to mention the year view. You got actual star wars events. With entire planets to use, as well as other options, you can rp major stories. You can do pvp or pve, sense the stats are all the same. No special stats for pvp, no special stats for pve.

Now one may try to bs everyone but not me, after years of playing that swg environment it got old, no swg player can claim otherwise. If swg had received well put together updates, it would have had allot more subs to it. Given the lack of resources the devs were given over in swg, they did the best they could. If swtor would add something in the game with a long term picture beyond pvp, flash points, and leveling then I would stick around. Right now its blah the same old same old is coming.

Warcraft has space ships, laser guns and force fields?! I'll admit, I never player Warcraft, but...those 3 things scream "sci-fi" to me. And yeah, Jawa's, Wookiees and lightsabers do make a difference, to me at least, because they aren't your every other D&D based MMO creature. Honestly, the last thing the MMO genre needs is another D&D based game. I hated D&D as a kid and thought it was odd then, and I hate that style of 'fantasy' now...sci-fi appeals to me, dragons and flaming arrows don't. I want a speeder, not a mount.

I feel Star Wars appeals to sci-fi fans much more than 'fantasy' fans...and sci-fi fans are hard pressed to find a decent MMO. Eve possibly, but I like to control a character, not a vessel.
All warfare is based on deception If his forces are united, separate them If you are far from the enemy, make him believe you are near A leader leads by example not by force

You underestimate the fanatic's capacity to rationalize something as quality, and continue to spend piles of money on it, no matter how awful it may be.

The Star Wars Expanded Universe novels are an excellent example of this, as was how Star Trek Online got away with charging $25 for new ships on top of the monthly subscriber charge.

Yea. But I mean as well you can chose who to save and who to kill. The alignment choices make the game really good.

Yeah it does, actually.

And "Star Wars" is fantasy. It makes absolutely no attempt to ground its story in scientific reality, which is kind of required to be "science fiction."

Mages have always had force fields, a space ship introduced a new race, and what is a wand if not a blaster?

So big hairy guys with bows is sci-fi and not fantasy, which is good because you hate fantasy. Lucas himself said the films are not sci-fi, he based their ideas on Kurosawa's films and westerns.
