Fashion Advice for Bioware: Less is More

This is not a suggestion, its advice and open to discussion.

Over the last two major updates the gear given to us has been getting progressively worse in terms of the way items look. They seem to be getting more and more crowded, more full to the brim with ridiculous trinkets, and decorations that just make armor look terrible.

Please take this advice to your designers Bioware. Less is more in most cases. Most of us would be quite happy with a simple robe that has various colour, or different patterns, or even slightly different looking armor. We don't require you to make our armor look so vastly different that it begins to look like a pre-schoolers art project. Honestly, its getting a little out of hand. Take a look at any of your armor pieces in the highest tier. The best looking pieces are the simple ones, such as the sentinels below 50 PVP armor, or the Operatives Rataka armor (We'll get to that in a moment BTW). The worst looking pieces are ones like the high level smuggler armor with the blasted wings on his head, or the marauder pieces. Less is more guys in terms of fashion.

While I'm on the subject. Stick to themes. An operative or sniper should be dressed in armor that suits an operative or sniper. It is infinetly strange that the Operatives PVE Rataka armor looks like Revans Sith robe and mask, and yet the armor for most of the Sith looks nothing like actual Sith armor.

So I implore you Bioware. Please, less is more, please tell your designers to step away and look at what they are doing, look at previous examples of Star Wars outfits in the universe, and in general fashion, and think for a moment "Does this actually look good? Does this fit for the class? or is this getting really out of hand? Am I letting my creativity go to far?"

I'll second this.

It seems, to a large extent, that as you get higher up in level the gear gets more elaborate. I like simple understated gear rather than stuff with a lot of, well, frou-frou on it. (The one exception to this, I think, are belts - plain straps-of leather type belts, at least orange ones - don't appear til higher levels; go figure o.O).

Boots, especially in heavy armor on Imp side, really suffer badly in this aspect. It's incredibly difficult to find just some plain *boots* - most of the Imp boots looks like they came from a Transformers movie.

Then, again, I prefer smuggler-type tunics and pants for all my characters so maybe it's just me.
It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Agreed. The best looking Trooper armor I've seen was the set you get on Tat from the Heroics. It's plain, it's simple...it looks like Trooper armor. 2nd best is the Rakata, again, because it's simple...unlike the ridiculous BM set.

I just want my male characters to be able to wear something with short sleeves. Is that too much to ask? Once the helmet goes on, nobody can even tell what race you are anymore.

It's cute that people still think the Dev's are doing anything more than trying to suck every last penny out of us. Art designers cost money, what we're getting in terms of armor is leftover (and likely unfinished) artwork from when they thought that this game could actually succeed. To think that EA is going to budget for anything new from here on out is hilarious. Why do you think we've been getting the same "look what's coming!" for four months now.

Just take a look at Warhammer Online to see the future of this game *cough* Jeff Hickamn *cough*.

I agree, the endgame gear for jedi knights looks awful, i mean why does a Jedi Sentinel in recruit gear look like Iron Man with a samurai helmet?

For the sniper I would suggest a new outfit reminiscent of Hawkeye's from the recent Avengers movie, it gives mobility of movement while also giving adequate protection.

Also i'd like to see a trooper outfit that looks similar to the armor of Delta Squad from republic commando.

In general i just think the outfits should be simpler, instead of adding a billion gadgets to a trooper's armor as he gets more advanced, why not thicker plating? this could make the trooper appear taller and wider, for example a body type 2 vanguard in this armor would appear from the outside to be body type 3, due to the advancements.

I agree i have been saying this for some time. I dont mind the odd armor piece that looks totally bad-*** but when there is little to chose from in terms of simple clothing (hell a simple cloak for inquisitors is a rare drop??) it is a little dissapointing. I dont want my inquis in light armor looking like swamp thing or a weird blend of purple / blue for a chest piece.

Its also a shame that the main type of cloak is just a colour swap spread from heavy to light armor. how about some variation. Long sleeves for a start
Kleck - Jugg Omisri - Maud Aeox - Assassin Meign - Sorc Idep - Stealthy Operative Jacke - Merc
SWTOR - No longer is it like the pain of a full bladder in your car on a long journey, relieved by a hidden service station. But the dissapointment you get when you find out you were not in a car - you were asleep, just wet yourself, and had to pay for new bedding.

This is actually one of the few areas of the game I expect to improve! There is plenty of money to be made in good looking, class specific Star Wars orange shells. And I think EA knows this, because the feedback for endgame armor has overwhelmingly been bad. And it's relatively simple to fix.

For example, there is a mid-level moddable Inquisitor robe, black and hooded, that goes for roughly 1-1.5 million credits on GTN. It is leaps and bounds better looking than anything a Consular can get. I would easily pay $5 or more for a Jedi Shadow version, alongside the leggings. This would be very simple to redesign very slightly for the Republic side, perhaps just changing some of the shadings in the color.

We still need content and things to do at endgame. But, as for things that will surely sell in the cash shop, EA would be foolish not to invest a little money in redesigning even existing armor shells, or introducing new ones.
