An analogy is perhaps appropriate at this point. Eggs and bacon. Eggs =/= bacon.

Monthly subscription fees = access to the servers to play current content, via recurring subscription or time card applied to your account.

Paid Expansions = point of sale content product, sold via retail merchants or digital point of sale. It carries a separate license agreement and product code that must be applied to your existing account.

What if they charge 2000 Cartel Coins for it?

If you've been this game since the beginning you should get about 2000 coins when F2P launches.

You call ONE planet an expansion but then you talk about reason and logic? Lol. Not to mention this was a game UPDATE. Not an expansion. Learn the difference. These UPDATES were mapped out well in advance for us and we were already told they were to be free. That was until they tanked this game so horribly that now they have almost no choice now apparently.

I dont think many would have a problem with spending 2000 cartel coins (what most will have after 8 months AND a CE) for a FULL EXPANSION but for one planet asking for a subscription and then extra fees is just plain insulting.

http://stormlegion.riftgame.com/en/ <----thats an expansion, Makeb is an update.

For those that say that 15 bucks a month only covers access to the game, I point you to what 15 bucks a month covers in another MMO : http://www.riftgame.com/en/game/updates/conquest.php <---- all that was free updating, included with your 15 bucks. ToR is not worth 15 bucks a month, sorry.

I also point you to my Sig. Im still waiting for that content to roll out month after month after month and have it be exciting.
James Ohlen: " For 2012 we really want players to feel like they're getting their money's worth. You're going to see so many changes and additions to the Star Wars Universe. It's going to be impressive. We have our Update 1.2 coming in the next week and then after that it's going to continue to roll out month after month. It's exciting."

Let's see, the game is going f2p...at least it will have a f2p option.

So the logical reaction is that people who pay subs will want to know what their sub will be worth. In other words, they are worried that it may not be worth it.

So, the best thing BW can do is be clear about what a sub will pay for and what f2p accounts get.

But no.....

BW has a better idea. Bring out the news. Retract the FAQ. Repost the FAQ without too many specifics. Make statements in interviews that sort of contradict earlier statements and give people more reason to worry about what's going to happen.

Does anybody else think, they might not have the best approach here?

Oh I forgot one thing....Part of BW strategy here was to create a LFG tool bug and still not fix it.

Man, I feel confident about where this game is going.

Congratulations for missing the point entirely

If BW, who said that subscribers would not pay for any content updates, releases Makeb and calls it and expansion, it is a cash grab for 2 reasons: 1) one extra planet does not constitute enough content to be an expansion; 2) they said before that it would be free and are therefore disingenuous on top of trying to make a quick buck.

Furthermore, you can try to explain away bad business tactics by playing on semantics but there is such a thing as earning customers's trust and goodwill (not that BW has been very good at this since DA2 but let's not digress). People who have stayed with the game since its inception, even though BW was not able to keep up with their stated goals regarding content releases frequency (see Ohlen's 1.2 quote), have kept paying for very little content. Now that some content is out, trying to nickel and dime them over it is unfair, and ultimately self defeating since even more will leave.

BW was already dangerously close to something like that when they kept hyping the 1.2 patch as something that should normally be paid for since there was so much content. Notwithstanding the fact that all the features should have been there at launch and that most of the patch was useless legacy fluff.

TL,DR: charging subscribers for Makeb is bad business, nevermind what the few sycophants left say.
