It's like if you went to the grocery store and they charged you every time you put an item in your cart, and then made you pay for it all at the end anyway when you went to leave the store.

Some of us have paid hundreds of dollars maintaining a sub while they told us "look at all the super new content were adding to the game!"

And now that the content is almost here they've changed it to: "look at all the super new content you'll be able to buy for our game!"
No you have't already paid for it with your sub. I really don't think you have ever read the TOS...Your almighty sub gives you access to the game...period.

LoL... I don't think you understand anything about the genre of MMO's.

How old are you? How many MMOs have you played?

We don't simply for access to the servers, that's not what this is, that would just make this a regular online game like MW3 or BF or whatever, don't have to pay to access those servers, just play for free.

We pay a monthly sub because MMOs are SUPPOSED to be living worlds that grow and change and our sub money goes to making them grow and change.

$15 a month is $180 per year which is the cost of THREE BRAND NEW GAMES.

If they aren't giving me 3 games worth of new content each year, well then I'm gone.

I honestly don't think you understand anything about this genre. If they came out here today and their EP said "your sub only buys you access to our servers, you are not entitled to ANY new content."

1. Do you think he would EVER actually say that?
2. Do you think there would be anyone left playing the game if he did?

Here's an even simpler question.

Why don't you have to pay a sub for GW2? DDO?

Because free to play means paying for content as it comes out.

Why don't you have to pay for content in a sub based game like WoW?

Because your sub as already paid for the new content being made.

It's about HOW the funding occurs. With the subscription model we pay for content in advance, we fund them while they develop new content and when it's ready they give it to us. They are using OUR money to make the game better.

With a f2p model they are using THEIR OWN MONEY to finance and develop new content, so they recoup those costs by offering it to us for a price.

What SWTOR is suggesting is a hybrid model where they use OUR MONEY to finance the content and then CHARGE US AGAIN to access it.... that is not how the sub model works, they want to alter it to wring more money from us and nobody is going to be happy.

I dont give a damn what some rich boy says about people complaining that they have to pay for new content. Guess what its a valid complaint. For those of you who sit in a office all day and earn a heck of allot of money, I am sure you cant understand where some of us are coming from. Some of us work for a living, and we do not get that luxury or, that kind of income.

Also mmos have changed, in the days of swg, and early days of wow it was about paying 15 bucks a month. For that money you got content and a great world. I think in a way the devs had control over making that world better, and most importantly cared about that world. Now mmos have become the online version of a casino. Think about it you have to spend RL money for everything under the sun, and then a sub. They keep having you come back for more by putting more interesting content in, and slowly up the price over time. The mmorpg industry is becoming about how much money can we milk from people, with AS LITTLE content as possible.

This is the way these greedy companies want to go, that is there choice, but if swtor asks me for more money up top of my sub for this new content. I will be gone, and not just from swtor, but from the mmorpg gaming world completely. I am sure the rich that can afford this kind of game play will remain to play these mmos, but I for one will not be staying around. I highly doubt I would be the first or the last to say to hell with mmos with the way they are going.

Hmm... I wouldn't describe it as milking subscribers.

It is all a matter of degree really. If the new content is an expansion pack (a new and complex story including flashpoints and ops as well as new races and level cap) then I expect subs will have to pay much like any other game.

If the new content is singular additions to existing game mechanics ie. a new flashpoint or a war zone, new fluff, expansion of current game activities and legacy, then I expect it to be free for subs.

Seems simple to me. I do not expect everything to be free for subs for life. lol! I would love it but that's not how it works. I do expect continuing game improvements in content and mechanics to be free for subs though.

[QUOTE=Durasturan;5053143]LoL... I don't think you understand anything about the genre of MMO's.

How old are you? How many MMOs have you played? Um this is a easy one...I was born when Kennedy was in the White House...going on my 8th or 9th MMO

We don't simply for access to the servers, that's not what this is, that would just make this a regular online game like MW3 or BF or whatever, don't have to pay to access those servers, just play for free. Once again read the TOS.

We pay a monthly sub because MMOs are SUPPOSED to be living worlds that grow and change and our sub money goes to making them grow and change. See Above.

$15 a month is $180 per year which is the cost of THREE BRAND NEW GAMES. And so far the game has received TWO content updates.

If they aren't giving me 3 games worth of new content each year, well then I'm gone. Ta Ta and Fare thee well...you won't be missed.

I honestly don't think you understand anything about this genre. If they came out here today and their EP said "your sub only buys you access to our servers, you are not entitled to ANY new content." Read the TOS..it does.

1. Do you think he would EVER actually say that? Relevance?
2. Do you think there would be anyone left playing the game if he did? See Above.

You see us grown-ups, actually read things before we agree to a binding agreement...I suggest in the future you do the same.

I think what you're pointing out is EXACTLY the reason that the MMO industry is dying off. WoW is losing loads and loads of players and why? 10 months with no new content and then they charge people for what little content they get.

EA wants us to pay month after month after month without puttin in HALF the things they promised us at the Guild Summit and they break every promise they ever made and then decide to charge us extra on top of that?

MMO's are dying because gaming companies are losing their focus, instead of making great games with fun and engaging content they just want to create new systems for screwing you out of money, and the industry as a whole is dying because of it.

It should be free as we have been subscribed through the 3 months of no content and we were told we would be getting regular small patched updates months ago. It isn't our fault they concentrated on the F2P model and making content ready for 3 months or more later. So yeah Free. I would pay for chapter 4 but to pay for a 5 level cap increase c'mon we aren't stupid , we are a bit gullable but not stupid.

Cheers,

Hahaha, hahaha, hahahahaha, HA.

If any of this is true... its just sad... they create a game only good for its One-Time Leveling content, and then they keep it the same & try to milk the subscribers for more money when most of them are already displeased and downright angry.

If its true I WANT them to fail, if its not I would still like to see the game improve and leave its place as WoW's yonger, dumber brother who spent his life trying to be just like big brother.

I grew up with mmos, they are in my blood, I have probably spent a year of combined time playing them.

i got two points to make.

1 we dont know anything about the size of the new planet.
2 we do not know if other content will be offered with it.

so i think ill wait and see and not speculate.
