That doesn't even make sense. They make nothing from asia. There main income comes from the Sub based western market. Everyone knows this.

It's why people say the asia subs shouldn't count when you look at wow numbers of 10 million.

Your thread starts off claiming that you need to copy WoW to succeed now your saying that WoW on it's on is not successful model??

I suppose box sales have nothing to do with all the pre-launch hype and marketing - remember RIFT? 'You're not in Azeroth any more?'

Heh, yeah, they all said they were different.

Massive sub migration away from these games all said 'Yeah, you aren't.'
Endgame gear grinds are not the way.

Eh??? You do realize that games like WoW, Lineage, etc... basically any game with subs over a milliion... the majority of those subs come from internet cafe subs in Korea and Japan, right?

Also, people who are in the virtual item and currency retail business work from internet cafes. They don't work at home....

Yes people play in asia doesn't change the fact that WoW still has 4 or 5 times the amount of Western players over any other MMO as well. Which is where they make the cash

Yeah, but games that arent like World of Warcraft.... you may not have massive sub migration... because in order to have that, people have to buy the game first... and if it isn't like WoW, MMO gamers won't even buy it.

You also need a huge budget and a good IP.

Secert world looks like a play station 1 game. People aren't going to pay 15 bucks a month for that in 2012

This post reminded me of the advertisement campaign of yet another "failed" P2P game that went free to play. Anyone remember Global Agenda's "No Elves."

I wonder how many N. American players would have played WoW without the giant asian fanbase... it's kind of like the snowball effect. N. American MMOs want to play the MMO with millions of other people playing... without the giant asian userbase, suddenly WoW isn't as massive as other MMOs...

Uh, did you just say The Secret World looks like a PS1 game? :P

Anyways, how about The Matrix Online? Massive IP, big budget for it's time.... it nearly bankrupted Sega, which had to sell it to Sony... which shut it down because nobody would buy/play it.
