Pay2Win was not preventable, EA has been drooling about nickle and dimeing gamers into oblivion for a while now.

Just wait until you see "YOU DIED, Insert 1 Cartel Coin to Continue?"
I'm posting with no pants on.

I'm hardcore like that.

It means that interest has already passed on.

Subscription games don't go F2P because it is an easier business model that allows them to push out content faster to their customers.

They go F2P because it has been proven to produce more income from a smaller number of players.

Don't feel betrayed. The game is free for people to get into playing, which is good for *you*. Having more players in the game will bring the game to a new level in terms of community participation, renown, and profitability (and in turn, more development money).

If you are paying a sub for the game, you will get everything you get now, plus tons of tokens to buy new micro-transaction perks.
If you go free to play, you will pay to participate in Operations, or to do more than the weekly quota of Flashpoints, and you will pay for tokens for the perks.

In other words, if you really can't afford the full game, you can still get in and play a bit and pay as you can. If you are paying, you are a VIP.
I make useful, game-expanding suggestions.

I am sorry for you.
Wrong.

Free 2 Play has been a plan for SWTOR for a long time.

Bioware knew they would lose most of their subscribers in a less than 8 months.

Which is why they didn't bother trying to fix anything wrong with SWTOR or give properly answer questions.

So you're saying they knew from day 1 of development that this game would be free to play in eight months and that they would lose over 50% of their subscribers?

Why didn't they just launch the game as F2P then? What stopped them from doing that?

You are a fool to think that free to play was part of their primary plan for this game. They had high hopes for it, hopes which have been dashed just as much as anyone else's.

Oh...and...Wrong.

Wee. Forum pvp is fun.

I bet you dont know that F2P works well all over the world.

Most games flourish after going F2P.
For the life of me why do people over look these FACTS, can some one show me where games that went free have failed at that point ? the ones that failed and they pulled the plug on were the ones that did not try the f2p model..
I understand allot of people may not like the f2p model, but companies flourish under it and thats whats its all about more profits.. and there is another camp of people out there that hate sub based games as much as allot of people hate f2p, all these threads are just beating a dead horse into dust, it's a done deal love it, hate it, don't care about it, play it or not thats your choices. /shrug
Do not dwell in the past, do not not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Yes.

From Day 1 Bioware knew subs were going to drop tremendously.

They didn't launch free to play because they had to be sure the servers could handle losing 50% of the playerbase.

edit: 65%

If they launched it Free 2 Play at the start the game might have more than 12 servers open.

And if you knew anything about Bioware, you'd know they love saving energy. Especially physical.

Just give the game some time and a couple million more dollars. It will get better.

are you, in any way, shape, or form implying that the game doesn't have some rather glaring issues?

No, it is not good for me. F2P'ers can't help me in Operations, and before you know it, will be able to buy all their war hero gear that the rest of us spent weeks and months grinding for 1 simple payment of $20. The same with the next tier of gear...
