This is not really the case. You might want to check this article out first http://www.edbott.com/weblog/2009/04...-a-windows-pc/

New desktop then your heat sinks haven't been heat cycled meaning you'll be fine heat sinks actually go bad after a while or more so not as efficient. As for for performance i think the makers would have taken this option out had it been an issue as for fan well when it goes you get a better one you dfon't worry about it failing cause CPU's aren't CONSOLES they are made to upgrade.
just bogh a P7-1235 over an h8 which may come but no issues now with it and if the A8 5500 ain't up to the task then a GPU and an A10 will get swapped 8gb of RAM using max 4gb for game you can't use more unless they decide it...so thats bio's set at 4GB for the intergrated GPU and it handles the game fine once new compatible GPU's come out it may jus be crazy fun and all for 495.00 hahaha but lookin at 16GB for other things.

Also theres a step by step process to turning off things for you low RAM guys in the 4GB max range just don't know which thread its in. But your CPU will be fine if your one of those that leave it running non stop then maybe you may want to alternate the settings for gaming and for other things but can be a pain after a while. This Rig is strictly MMo's and once I get an SDD 150GB should make things even more smoother...remember its not always in one set of components that are great means that everything else will run great. get Get RAM HDD and GPU/CPU running and you should be fine.

Also that this game uses all 4 cores is crazy and upserd most games use one if 2 that SWTOr uses all your cores is crazy and silly.

I have/had lots of fps issues that weren't adding up for my rig. It is a laptop, but a gaming laptop and there was just no logical reason I should be having fps issues on really any settings, but I was. From extensive reading it seems a big part of the issue is just how long this game was in development and the software it was originally built with. it seem a lot of this stuff doesn't talk nice with newer rigs and the game is not optimized around current software. Anywho another easy fix for a boost in fps is to take a flashdrive and configure it for ready boost.

This happened to me. I couldn't figure out why my computer, which is pretty much the same as my friends, had 10 FPS everywhere while he had 30-50. So, looking through the control panel one day I found this and now it's all better.

Though, I still think it's sad that I have 15-20 FPS, in a Warzone with 16 people fighting each other, yet in GW2 I can have over 50 people fighting tons of foes and run at least 30, closer to 40 I think

Uhhhhh. That's not good. 101C is over the boiling point of water. If your card is not running at its specified GPU/memory speeds, it's probably because the temperature has exceeded safety thresholds and it is being throttled. If you don't do something about it, your card will die soon.

Make sure that you clean any dust out of your case, paying special attention to the graphics card. If that doesn't significantly drop your temps, take the side off your case and blast it with a fan of some sort. Additionally, consider looking into the thermal paste on your GPU HSF. There is something wrong with those temps - they should not be that high.

While playing, I noticed that TOR was using an awful lot of CPU..in fact 58-74% of all 4 of my CPU cores. That caught my attention as no single app, game, whatever, should use that kind of CPU, and certainly NOT on a high performance system with plenty of RAM, high speed HDDs, and high speed multi-Core CPU.

As it turns out the solution had NOTHING to do with tweaking game settings or my GPU's setting eithers.

It had EVERYTHING to do with altering my PC's POWER MANAGEMENT settings.

See, Win 7/WS2008 defaults to a power management plan it calls 'Balanced', which tries to keep the CPU from switching up to higher frequencies to save power, supposedly only switching up when the app wants more CPU.

Well in my case, instead of the CPU frequency dynamically going up and down like it should, it stayed CAPPED on the LOWEST frequency. Thus the strangely high CPU usage, I was only getting the MINIMUM my quad-core CPU could offer.

SO..w/o changing any game settings or GPU settings at all, I switched the Windows power plan to "High Performance" and BAM..I leapt from a solid 14-22 FPS to a solid 50-60 FPS.

Anyway..the technical story is it seems SWTOR.exe actually is a multi-threaded app (38 at current count) so it can actually spread its load over all CPU cores. That silly power plan had my CPU P-state running at the minimum all the time, never dynamically adjusting like it should, and TOR simply spread the load across the CPU cores and made do.

The CPU is an AMD Athlon II X4 630, and I have an Radeon 5770 PCI-E card w/ 1 GB RAM, and 6 GB of DDR3 RAM, and a pair of SATA II 1TB HDDs for reference.

Anyway..pay heed to those default power plan setting, especially if you run the game on laptops, but check anyway as manufacturers mess with them extensively these days and load up their own power management apps that can kill your performance.
This is proabably why I've never had fps issues, my PCs were always set for high performance ( I build my own PCs). I hope this thread helps a lot of people with fps issues, Bioware should sticky this in the technical forums. Keep it bumped until they do.

Good work, Kinsh_Desu.

How do you tell how the exact temp your rig is running at?
