Rolling need for your companions in flashpoints, acceptable or loot ninja?

Here's a concept... ask if anyone in the group NEEDS the gear for the upg. If not, then ask for permission to roll need to gear your companion. Problem?

The only problem is when they don't ask... I like the suggestions of a four tier roll system, need (main), need (companion and off spec), greed, and pass.

YOU NEED IT.

Anyone who says otherwise is a crybaby who doesn't want to lose the odd roll. What makes your player more important than my companion? What makes ME more important than YOUR companion? NOTHING AT ALL!!!

Your companion did not participate in the 4 man Flashpoint or Heroic.
When you companion takes up 1 of the 4 available spots as the group healer or tank, then you may roll need for him/her. You can not roll need for your brother who was offline either.
Looking for a good woman. Able to clean, cook, sew, catch bait, and clean fish. Must have boat and motor.
((Please send picture of boat and motor))

I echo the sentiment here that Player need > Companion need > Greed (sell)

However, how does one accomplish that since I don't see a way to link the loot before it rolls? In Aion, for example, you could link it to your chat so everyone can compare stats and figure it out before it actually goes to a dice roll.

I personally think need should only be rolled for your main character, and not for companions... I called the guy out on it, then after the instance he was flaming me in general chat for being a rage quitter or some such.

Opinions?
I'd say you can roll need for companions only if no one else rolls need on the item in question (assuming they aren't rolling need for their companion) AND after asking if it's okay.

Edit: I quite like the idea of having another roll in there: Need, Need (Companion), Greed, Disassemble.

This

Needing for companions is a kickable and blacklisting offense IMO and if it happens in my groups the whole server will hear about it

Every companion can be equipped with oranges and it's not difficult to do so and buy them upgrades every 5 levels or so. I equip Mako with my old pistol mods, but the availability of mods will increase over the next week. You can also buy them for commendations (of which I have plenty extra)

When doing pugs....If you can sell it you need it.

Learn it, live it, love it....your gaming experience will be much better.

When on a guild run or with friends......Nb4G

Use common sense.

If no one can use the weapon or armor that drops (heavy strength armor if no jedi guardians are present) then yes, it should be okay. Make sure you mention where it is going.

Generally it is polite to ask if you may need for your companion. If anyone else needs it for their actual character, it is never acceptable to roll over them for it. Period.

This is my opinion on it.

This isn't World of Warcraft. The people you meet remember you, and the people you group with can boot you easily, blacklist you, and tell their friends.

If you want to make enemies and enjoy a solo game, this is a great attitude for it.
