This. Go do Black Talon (Esseless for you Republic scum) Story Mode to gear up for your HMs. That's how this game works, right?

I love that the OP said, essentially, that if you want him to skip the cutscenes, all you have to do is not be a dick. Then it turned into the people who want cutscenes to be skipped trying (apparently) to out-dick each other to argue with the concept of not being a dick. I just think it's amusing that you're going so far out of your way to prove the point you're arguing against.

Does that mean that all Guardians and Commandos should always leave those defaults when they queue?

Defaults are defaults and essentially meaningless.
This could be relevant, but your context is incorrect.

The context is not whether this is an "option".

This is not a setting, this is a pre-programmed operation of the game that happens to be modifieable as a luxury.

If the cut scenes were meant to be skipped as a primary optiion, we would have a "play full scene" option.

Until we see the baseline behavior of the cuts asking to play the full scene, no player is obligated for any reason to skip anything.

And BECAUSE of that, no player should be ridiculed, shamed, ousted, blacklisted or otherwise negatively seen for playing the game as it was programmed.

This argument that the skipping is also programmed, and therefore an equal option in the game is a fallacy, the skip option is a luxury, an "add-on" to the REGULAR operation of the cut scenes.

If the skip option were to be an equal part of this area of the game, you would have been given the option to "play full" in addition to skip.

But its not that way, is it.

All of these self-entitled brats, screaming that folks who dont skip are wasting their time, are in fact, wasting their breath.

BT and Esseles are the most-run flashpoints on-level. If you can't get a group for Esseles or BT upon arriving at fleet, you're doing something horribly, massively wrong. Even the last couple characters I've rolled - before and after merges - ran these multiple times on-level.

If you haven't seen it and want to see its story, solo it instead of hardmoding it. It's pretty easy to solo Esseles when you're 50.

That is a separate issue from gearing up for hard-modes, which can be done by queueing up for regular modes.

So you just made my point for me.

Anyone who accepts the default of what the game throws at us should be revered, coddled, carried through instances, all the while having his feet cleaned with the tears and hair of 12 virgins.

So when the DPS Guardian or DPS Vanguard or DPS Commando pops open the LFG tool and smashes the "go" button without ever looking at what it checked, and then they get allocated the role of tank or healer for HM Lost Island when they're wearing green level 46 gear, the rest of the group should carry them and love them and treat them like rock stars, right?

Because that's how the game was coded to act by default, and as you said the default option is the one the developers meant us to take.

PvE'rs.... "I watched those cutscenes a hundred times".

I never understood the PvE side of MMO's and people playing the same pre-scripted encounters over and over again.

So for the record, I will NOT skip a single line of a cutscene, simply because I do those flashpoints ONCE for the story part and fun, and I never intend to do them again.

Deal with it.

So, I read through this thread and laugh quite a bit. Cause seriously, people seem to act like skipping or not skipping is some sort of death offense (for both things! even better). So, does anyone else not use the convo's as an excellent time to talk with the group, or respond to tells, talk with the guild, etc etc? If the whole goal is to save time, wouldn't using the convo's to coordinate and strategize be preferential to stopping in front of the boss and spending a few minutes going over the strategy?

Personally, I don't bother to skip, as I have yet to see any tangible benefit from doing so. I load exceptionally fast (I'm the last guy in the elevator, and the first guy out). Going into convo's is instantaneous for me, so when not skipping, I get the "waiting for other players", even if nobody is skipping. And when skipping, even if everyone else is skipping, I still get it. So, instead of whacking at the spacebar, I use that time to stretch, chill, crack my knuckles, or run and grab a bottle of water. I've also never been called out as someone who is holding up the group (I think most people don't notice I'm not space barring because I do not have any load times for convos, which cuts a drastic amount of time in the first place).

The whole space barring thing is silly anyways. It requires active participation (you have to whack at that thing), then choose the response, whack some more, choose a response, etc etc. Even if people are "on the ball" with space barring, they'll often take longer to choose a response since they're still "waiting for players" due to load time differences, and then, they're still stopping to talk to the group. If ya'll are so keen on speed runs, why not ask bioware to include an option for FP's that redacts convo's specifically for speed? Having a speed mode where there are no real cut-scene convo's would speed things up the most, since it would cut out the load times, and cut out the active participation in skipping. Whether or not you'd include social points still, I don't really know (and don't care).

Now, instead of perhaps trying with "Please, can we skip the cutscenes?", which I would have agreed to, the comments instead convinced me to make it a point to watch every single second of dialogue in the flashpoint, just to annoy those kids. And boy did it ever.

Sadly I've seen this impatient and obnoxious attitude become pretty common when doing flashpoints, as if skipping is viewed as must-do and expected. A lot of people don't expect people to want to watch this stuff, even though BioWare put it there for us to watch. I for one really enjoy this dialogue and watch it when I can, and will continue to do so in flashpoints far more times than just one. These (very well done) cutscenes do represent part of the default game that everyone has paid for. Some people have actually not seen this stuff yet and should be given every chance to. "But its just Black Talon!!! Skip FFS". Doesn't matter what it is, if someone enjoys it, let them watch. You can wait 3 more minutes to finish the flashpoint.

So you guys out there in a hurry for some reason, other people are far more inclined to skip the story stuff for you if you're not being a *ick about it And for those who act like those two kids and wind up in a group with me, bring plenty of popcorn.
Yeah, as someone who loves this game, and truly appreciates the work that the builders put into the content, I'm 100% in agreement with you. I am not enjoying the power gamers jumping on chests and such while I'm fighting the monsters guarding them.

Speaking of which, perhaps Bioware could look into not enabling the objects until the monsters are cleared?
That would solve much of the "ninja" problem.

OP, for your enjoyment, I give you my solemn vow to watch every second of every cutscene that I paid for.
I actually like them also.

No. This is you making a straw man and then seeing what you want to see. What bearing does group role have to do with skipping dialog? Absolutely nothing.

If the default provided by the game was to skip cutscenes it would be different. But that's not how it is. That would make no sense in a story based game, which is why te default is not skipping.
