Broken Promises or Unrealistic Expectations?

Players want to race to the end game, and never sit back and enjoy the ride to get there. I still think there can be a balanced game that can have everything, but I'm not sure if I'll ever see it tho. One mistake BioWare did with this game was making leveling up way too easy. Also, they don't have enough "fluff" or filler content in place to keep people busy.

I think space missions can be a very nice time sink...if they had more to it. Like open space where you can find things, like space ship/ports and board them to steal resources, or side missions to save a crew from death (where it can even promote pvp where anyone can attack, and take your finds over). Have a huge universe, and tons of places for people to find, defend or attack. Make it feel more like a living universe, outside of the planets themselves.

Stuff like that, where it gives tons of cool stuff to do outside of the normal raiding content. Mini games like Pazaak and Swoop Racing to name a few more. SW:TOR needs more "fluff content, and I think it might be a lot of fun. Make space more than just a mini game on rails. Man this game could be a lot more if EA allowed it, and if BioWare asked gamers for their ideas to improve the game.
Bioware has asked and responded, though having to correlate multiple tweets & podcasts to piece the puzzle together can be frustrating. They've stated (no I'm not going to go digging for it) that side games and a serious upgrade to the space minigame were impending. I'm sure recent internal events have delayed a great many things they talked about.

Unfortunaterly I think you are somewhat correct in the sense that the voices who have yelled the loudest about change are also the voices who are bashing the game - and maybe causing a few on the fence to reconsider. If this is the case then they are in essence sabotaging their own cause ... assuming of course they really were serious about improving the game to begin with and not just astroturfing.
Can we please just have our pre-KotFE SWTOR MMORPG back?

I think bioware missed a huge opportunity. They banked on players wanting to reroll for endgame... so why couldnt they spend more work there? I mean, I would much more love to make alts if they had more planets to chose from. Instead of going to x planet for level 10 to 20, I could goto y or z. That would not only create a varied leveling path, that makes leveling new for atleast a couple alts, but they could have made your story branch depending on which planets you choose. This creates a more varied story that actually does feel like you created it.
YES very good points about story lines that can branch, and more freedom to do so. It can work and I hope BioWare has learned a lot from the game, and how to make it even better. We will see but with EA "cutting" costs...that will only make things even harder to dev new ideas and content

Indeed man indeed. One thing I have learned over the years with MMO's or gaming in general. You can not make everyone happy haha there will always be someone unhappy about the game they are playing

I forgot about this really big truth... in regards to the one nitpicking the earlier posted Dev Diary # 4 : Combat link and the heroic combat. Is 2011 too old, or outdated, or antique, too?

Their declared (because there was really no pressure) goal is to give us 500 Worlds "Guaranteed!", no less... than 2025.

So, we have 500 Worlds in 13 years... this means 38 per year.. rounded down. We are getting so far ONE.. which amounts to 13 by 2025.

I guess it`s from the realm of "Endorsed by Fairy GodMother" guaranteed content.

So, having established at least 3 major lies ... and there are others... we can assume that is 50-50% dead on between Bioware lying through its teeeth and the Community buying them, or expecting anything else than a mediocre MMO with VOs.

It is quite simple IMO. Hands down, its unrealistic expectations.

I can say that unequivocally. My proof? BW can't win. They added LFG and they get blasted for it. They consolidated player pops to improve the gaming experience and they get blasted for it. They add additional down time to fix bugs and improve game play and they get blasted for it. They nerf classes due to complaints and they get blasted for it. I could go on and on and on.....

See a pattern? Yea... gives you a glimmer of some people's so called expectations. "Some people" came in with their own preconceived notions of what this game should be. It wasn't the hype, they came with their own ideas on what the game was or is and then... it wasn't that. Get the picture? They, those people, can't be satisfied and wont' be satisfied. And this goes way beyond TOR. There are these unbelievable expectations with every new game release. EVERY release is the second coming of whatever. It never is.

I think it is hilarious that people are saying that BW lied. lol! Maybe I'm jaded or a cynic, but I understand 2 things about the PR and ads surrounding any game or product for that matter.

1. The product is always the best in its class and revolutionary. It never is.

2. They always tell customers what they want to hear and they never reveal their true plans.

My point is, BW did exactly what they needed to do to create interest just like any other company peddling their wares. And lest we forget, the game is 7 months old... lol! 7 moths old! Yup, that's it. Close the books, the game is at its end state.

And apparently, those that would support the game and give BW time to improve have blinders on. lol! Love this bit. Yea... we are unaware of the bugs and oblivious to necessary improvements. Or... maybe... we are more realistic with our expectations and understand that the things we want, generally, will come in time. That fixes and improvements are ongoing. So... maybe... we aren't the ones with blinders on after all. The ones with blinders are those looking for the mythical second coming of whatever. The ones that go chase the shinys and end up posting the same QQ in other new shiny forums wondering why they were lied to again. lol!

You're 100% right man, and that goes back to my statement of: "no company can make everyone happy" haha

I admit the game is good, but it doesnt deserve half the hype its getting, TOR is also good and it doesnt deserve a quarter of the hate it gets.

Much as I love having more areas and planets to be on would you really want a 500 planet game on a game that is dying so badly they had to down size to 12 US servers only in a matter of 6 months? lol
