The ability to group up is there for a reason.

This is the first news that we've had that didn't imply everyone will be moved to their designated destination server during the automatic transfers. It sounds like they're looking at the populations of the destination servers to see where to transfer the people remaining on the origin servers.
What will they do if all of the servers of that type/regio language are full?

So is the ability to level solo. However, on light to moderate servers where there aren't over 100 on the planet, the ability to group is present when there are 40.

First off, to all the fanboys who find it necessary to bash anyone that doesn't share their opinion, yes I know this is an MMO I'm not f**king retarded. Like many others who play this game I like my mmos a little less on the massive side. I rolled my characters on lightly populated servers so I could do class quests relatively uninterrupted & when I felt like it I could group with other people to do flashpoints or heroic quests. This is not the first mmo I have played and I always play on light-medium population servers. The only difference now with this game is I no longer have that option. Some may like playing on densely packed servers but many of us don't. I just transferred my characters tonight & while I am furious about it & will probably not renew my subscription because I was forced to, in the off chance I don't unsub I might as well get something out of it other than a sore *****.
The draw for me with this game was the class storyline quests not the flashpoints or the pvp. I don't need a server that has 200 people on each planet to enjoy it.
Now on to my real point.

If these transfers are to ensure a "quality gaming experience" for players why smash all the US players on to 12 servers?(I don't play on the European or Asian servers so I won't be talking about them) Wouldn't it have made more sense to let everybody that wanted to be on such a high population server transfer, then merge the remaining servers in groups of 5 or 10? This seems way more reasonable to me. First of all there would be far fewer instances of people having to change their names (and yes that is a big deal. When you immerse yourself in your character's story for 50 levels & then have to change their name because you are forced to move, it's like the character is no longer yours.) Also, with the added servers, if this game does actually pick up a decent amount of new players in the future, they too won't have to be jammed like sardines into the handful of servers left. If all the servers had been this crowded when I started playing this game I would already be gone.

If BW decided to limit the amount of servers to 12 to save themselves some money, well, when the smoke clears I hope they see that keeping 10 or 15 more servers online probably would have been more cost effective than a "voluntary" transfer/merger that cost them hundreds if not thousands of subscribers who were pissed that the game they had come to really enjoy had been taken from them.

Have there been any recent posts from devs or anyone about this? Something tells me they're pretty much just giving us the finger & telling us to deal with it or leave. For shame BW/EA! alienating your customer base is a terrible business model in case you couldn't figure that out

This entire process has so far been a shambolic farce.

I am a complete noob to SWTOR and MMO's in general - In fact this is my first mmo. I admit I only bought the game because I'm a long time Knights Of The Old Republic / KOTOR: The Sith Lords fan. and I'm still levelling my first toon(level 38 Jedi Shadow atm).
So I started on a 'light' population server, to find my feet and not be bothered by or be a bother to, other 'seasoned' players. I still had some negative experience's with grouping (due to my lack of skill/experience) so I just solo it with my companion at the moment. And I have been really enjoying the game so far!
But I will say this straight out : I AM NOT A HAPPY BUNNY at the moment.
I have had to transfer my 2 toons to a heavy population server ~ Nightmare Lands on EU.
Firstly ; I was under the impression that we weren't being forced to move and that it was purely voluntary. I WAS WRONG.
Secondly; I had no choice in destination server - So it's basically a heavy/full population server at peak times or nothing! Not just that but there doesn't appear to be more than a handfull of servers left in total to choose from (now that the Origin servers are locked and closing). Is this normal mmo practice? The game just came out at Christmas for Pete's sake! Is it declining that much already? This server cutting certainly gives off that vibe !

Thirdly; Waiting times! ***? I have seen and read about waiting times and server queue's from 20mins to an hour at peak times? Really? I'm paying £8.99p a month for the privelage of having to sit in a queue in my own living room. Not to mention I had to 'jump through hoops' with PC specifications, credit cards and security keys/questions just to get bloody started ~ What a faff on that was btw!

I will categorically state here to EA and BIOWARE, that if I have to queue for 20 mins plus just to get into a game then I am definitely unsubscribing pronto! After all I pay to play - Not pay to queue!
EA did this same BS on Battlefield 3 (on Xbox even) ie. Killed off original DICE servers and replaced with Rent-a-server, server queueing etc. What a mess of a once great game franchise that's become. I quit - Haven't played it in months now. That game is going down like the Titanic...
Please Bioware do not follow same path. EA kills all it owns eventually. Fact.

I hope they're paying attention to the number of people they are loosing because of this. I hope at least other games take notice and see that people will leave a game because of issues like this. I can't see how this makes business sense if they loose so many subscriptions because of this. It doesn't seem that they care about that. Well, all we can do is try to be vocal about our complaints, and eventually do what should get their attention and unsubscribe when they screw us over too much. Which is what I am doing. Maybe other games will take notice of the cause of this game's failure and actually try to please us. Well, I gotta hope for something. Bye SWTOR. It was great for a short while. I do hope this isn't the end of the Star Wars franchise also.

100% Agree with this statement.

I was worried when I first saw EA's logo on SWTOR, but I trusted in BioWare ...

I no longer trust BioWare, BioWare do not exist now, they are just EA under a different name. Buying up trusted companies, cheating their customers, destroying said companies trusted name, then rinse & repeat ad infinitum.

I think it's a bit unfair that these people get all these special rewards for transferring when I just transferred a month ago. Anyone who transferred should get the rewards,

I am really unhappy about this. i do not want to transfer my characters i chose a light server for a reason. i do not like to encounter other online players in any way. i have blocked all friend request, group invest and trade ect. i hate it when im doing a quest and another online player or a group of online players just come and interfere killing the enemies i was going to kill or collecting what ever is needed for the quest then i have to wait for them to respawn and in some case that's happen to me i will be waiting for a while for some item or enemie to respawn then when they spawn as i go to make my move some other players jump in and beat me to it then i have to wait again. when i got the game i only played 1 month because all the servers were far to populated for my liking so i left the game after 1 month even tho i like the game there was too many people on one server. now i have come back for a while and i have been forced to transfer to another server that has too many people on it, and was not even allowed to pick the server i wanted to go to. well guess what if i cant transfer back to another light populated server they are losing my subscription again.
