The second the game goes F2P is the second I quit. Would hate to see this happen.
Want to post feed back of why you're quitting? For the love of all that is good, post here http://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=349

The problem with F2P games is that they make you pay $$ for content and power. In a B2P game you always get access to 100% of the content (sans expansions, which everyone in every model pays for) and the only thing in the cash shop is cosmetic.

Games that go F2P inevitably offer content and power in the cash shop which is what people hate so much.
GW2 is free to play once you buy it. It has no sub model. And therefor it is inc in all the FTP MMO's. It is true basically what you are saying however. So not trying to be argumentive. And there are a lot of different FTP models out there and what is really free and what you have to spend money on and the limitations involved. But they are all bunched up into the FTP MMO's.

Well, a lot of players have allready quit and any company is not concerned about individuals quitting, but overall how much money would it generate going with a different ways to play.

I only this thread now and I want to say that if this game goes F2P I will really consider quitting it.

I live in Brazil and I know how most of us brazilians tend to behave in such F2P games, a thing that I try to change when I meet new "foreign" (to me) people.

I love Star Wars and I love this game, I even stopped playing all the other games I currently have installed in my PC (Test Drive Unlimited 2 & Battlefield 3) just to play this game.

Going F2P will be the EPIC FAIL for this game.

I want a good futuristic game with a great story to follow (not only grind for items, craft, sell, have more gold than you know how to spend) to play and be equal to everyone in terms of gear not the crap we find in F2P games where who can buy the credits to get "money based gear" will be more well geared than others.

Even being brazilian, I have the means to play this game using timed cards, since there are some online stores here that sells them.

With a P2P game, you pay to be in a more selective environment, with people that is more confident and commited to the game, people that you know that uses the same gear that you and etc...

Anyway... I just hope this doesn't happen or this game will be doomed.

Another thing... did you guys realize that every game/game company that EA puts its hands on they spoil everything?

Two different things, yes. But I very much doubt that the two terms "F2P" and "B2P" are generally accepted as official terms. This is purely my guess, but I think a potential F2P scenario for TOR would be you buy the box and then it's free. It is free to play once you purchase the disc/download, just like GW2. Otherwise it can never be F2P for me. I've already bought the discs...

As another poster said... it's Groundhog Day.

There's a lot of Freemium / F2P / B2P out there. All slightly different, yet mostly the same - you get the cake for free but need to pay for the plate to carry it to the table and then again for the fork to eat it with. This is not a big deal... unless they do it wrong. And lets face it, if EA is putting their foot in here, they'll likely do it wrong. Why?

Q: "What's the worst thing to ever happen to BioWare? "
A: "EA."

What's the "wrong" way you ask? Some games are F2P but really P2W (Pay2Win), where you need to pay for success. Sure, you can see the content, or participate in the PVP. And fail at it. Hard. You can get frustrated, then buy the gear needed to secure the boss kills or be competitive in PVP. If SWTOR goes that way, I'm out. I think most of the older players here would be out as well. I don't know the SWTOR demographics (I don't think anyone outside select people at EA and BioWare do), but I think if that happened it would be over in no time for the game.

On the other side of the coin there are some very successful F2P models. DDO and LOTRO use a model of F2P with premium content - individual content is paid for (beyond the basic game), and there is also an optional premium subscription that allows access to nearly everything that isn't purely for vanity. DDO and LOTRO are different on the content (dungeon packs vs VIP, etc.), perks of membership, and store items, mind you, but they're both succeeding in this model. Essentially, it makes the subscription an option - you can a la carte what you want, or buy the whole package, or just hang out in steerage with the rabble if you like. If SWTOR goes this way, I'll be staying, as a Premium / VIP / Whatever subber.

TL/DR? IDC. TB4U.
A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack. Unless there are purples involved. Then it's totally OK.

gonna disagree with that since you still have to buy the box and they said all the major updates will also have to be purchesed.

No one is calling Diablo 3 F2P.

F2P is exactly what it says you can play the game with out ever spending a dime.

As for the OP the date of the video was JUNE its now at the end of July. The game is not going F2P anytime soon please refrain from trolling

F2P wont help the game either IMO. The problem with the game is the core of the game and being able to play it for free wont solve those problems.

Lets get all the fanboiz in here to say that if it did go F2P that would just help prove that its one of the best MMO's ever.
Didn't you say in another thread that this game would be great if it was single player? So a f2p game that costs 20 bux new wouldn't be great in your opinion? Man you're just whining to whine...

If it goes f2p, it basically can be treated like single player since there is no justification for a monthly fee anymore. By your own admittance it would be great...nice trolls.

I have yet to play a f2p game where you can buy skill...

It will just be visual perks, look at league of legends...tell me what you can buy that makes you op? GW2, same story...

I think the f2p model is the future.

If you think they will let you buy campaign gear/wh gear with rl money then you're delusional.

Yet now everything in the game is designed to push players into the store. For example: before f2p, upon deconstructing a legendary item, any relics that had been placed in it were returned to the player. After f2p, players must buy a scroll from the cash-shop to get those relics back. And the grind to get top-end relics just happened to get ridiculously longer and more expensive.

Also, every screen in the game has "LotRO STORE" stamped somewhere on it, often in multiple places. Having the store constantly shilled at you gets annoying very quickly.

Another example is STO. Even when it was a cash-shop/subscription hybrid, virtually every desirable addition to the game was only available from the cash shop for a fee; that was in addition to the monthly sub cost.

A counter-example: despite struggling, Warhammer Online has NOT gone f2p because the developers don't feel there is any fair way they can monetize the game without turning it into the ubiquitous "pay-to-win".

The point of all this is, even if the game doesn't initially start out that way, the cash-shop eventually overwhelms the rest of the game. So while a conversion to f2p may be good for the accountants (and I'm skeptical that it's a sustainable model in the long-term, as the cash-shop becomes more and more of a necessity and drives away players), it is invariably bad for the game.
kudos. pretty much sums up the F2P curse.
