I preferred a "dead" server

I also like playing on a lower populated server. Yes this is an mmo but I can't see why we are all being jammed into already overpopulated servers. BW has taken the "problem" of underpopulated servers and served us all up a bunch of extreme overkill. I don't pay a subscription fee every month so I can wait in a queue to log into the game. Why not make 20 servers with a decently high population instead of 10 that are so packed you have no choice but stomping all over the other people playing the game? Sometimes I like grouping with other people but other times I like rolling solo. Now I have no choice in the matter and that sucks. I would at least like an option to play on a server that has a medium population

Really? because we don't want to pay a subscription fee to sit in a queue and find it ridiculous to overpopulate servers?

You're not going to be able to escape queues. Saying that a server is overpopulated is odd considering they each have a player limit, and you can always change instances if you feel you'd rather be around fewer people. At launch I never had to sit in a queue for longer than 15-20 minutes. During that time I cleaned, or god forbid read a book.

I personally like playing by myself most of the time and whenever I've had too many people killing my mobs I either just waited it out, jumped instance, or did another quest. Not a single part of me wanted to take to the forums to needlessly complain.

@OP

These are problems endemic to MMORPGs in general due to the anonymity of the Internet. Basically people are jerks when there are no real rules to abide by and/or they don't have an internal value system based on strong morals. Any MMORPG you play you are going to encounter these same problems or variations there of.

That said, I too feel like you in that I do not want to be helped AT ALL unless I ASK. I don't need any help most of the time. I don't want to be buffed I have them all now. I am not going to stop what I am doing and buff the person who just buffed me back. I just want to be left alone until I feel like interacting. But I have posted my views on solo play in other solo threads here. If I see someone in trouble, I will SEND THEM A TELL and ask them if they want help. If they respond I help otherwise I don't.

I used to get pretty angry when someone messed up my pacing. Now, I just let it go becasue I know I can not change the behavior of others in the game. With anonymity, most seem to put on the armour of "I don't care if you are a real person, I am going to USE you to MY advantage." And TBH, I have had to ninja to get my quests done because of it. It was either adopt the enemies tactics to get nothing done.

I don't believe there are any altruistic communities in MMORPG games as a whole, per game, per server. There are only small Islands that develop with all the human filth of anonymous entitled internet behavior.

Agree wholeheartedly that competing with other players for quest resources sucks. Fortunately BioWare implemented world instances to help solve that problem. Unfortunately they still need to tune some.
Yeah like they need to drop the number of players needed to create an instance. When the black hole has over 40 players and no instance available...hard to get anything done.

Folks, my question was answered. Those of you who actually answered the question, thank you.
I didn't see that there were RP servers, but I'll see about transferring characters to those servers. I'm sure I'll do much better standing around for 10 seconds, applying my buffs and such there. Lord forbid I actually use things provided in the game, like buffing abilities, stims, and such. I don't know what I was thinking there.. Lord help us all if I were to actually try to rearrange my quickbar before a battle to make things flow better in combat. That might crash the game for all the NASCAR players. How rude of me.

The trolls, well, you're quite obviously the kinds of players who create the situation that brings me to create this thread.
Have fun playing keyboard commando from your peanut butter castles in Mommie's basement. It takes real courage to troll on message boards. You should be proud.

It's no big deal. I fully expected some of it. I did not expect it to be as bad as it is.
What was great about NWN is that the players owned the servers. I've banned no small number of people from mine.
Thanks.

I see where you're coming from, OP. Though I don't like playing on a "dead" server, I would prefer a more moderately populated one than the packed one I am currently on. It seems that most players currently have the choice of either:
1. sardine can server
2. dead server
. . . while many would prefer a nice medium between those two.

Ironically, I find that playing at peak times can help in some areas, as a second instance will be created that you can go to. There were almost 200 people on Dromund Kaas the other night, but there was a second instance I was able to go to with like 5 people in it. xD Unfortunately, the number of people needed to trigger a second instance seems a little too high. I think if they lowered it, it would help a lot.
