Rolling need for your companions in flashpoints, acceptable or loot ninja?

Last night I ran Athiss for the first time, and was happy to see the final boss drop an awesome blaster pistol. Being a Powertech, I rolled need and got a 1. A Sniper in the group rolled need and of course got the blaster. He said his companion needs it. My question is this... What is the general consensus on rolling need for your companions? I personally think need should only be rolled for your main character, and not for companions... I called the guy out on it, then after the instance he was flaming me in general chat for being a rage quitter or some such.

Opinions?

That he's a word that I would get banned for saying.

But, you have only yourself to blame. Find a guild and quit pugging and you won't have to deal with that stuff.

Needing for companions is lame.

Hi,

In my opinion this should only be the case if the group agrees to it. I think that if someone in the group needs the item for himself then no one else should roll for it to give it to their companion. If no one needs the item then I would still ask first if I can need it for my companion.

If it were me who wanted it for my Companion, i would ask if its ok to roll need for him. If someone needed it for their actual character though, i would pass.

And his behaviour afterwards, well that's just indicative that he wasn't a great person to party with anyway. Stick him on your ignore list and move on.

Well I think it's pretty lame tbh, to roll for your companions.
But I guess you can't expect otherwise.

What they do need to change is being able to need on things that aren't for your class.

I think eventually we're going to have to come to terms with needing for our companions, though. When we all get to lvl 50 and have our characters equipment maxed out the only thing we'll have to work on is our companions.

It'll be tricky, for sure.

Back on topic: The guy in your party was a jerk. There's no reason he needs to flame you after he won the roll.

Well if his companion was part of the group, I say he can need on it. Most likely, his companion was not. This would be like needing on loot for a friend of mine who wasn't even online.
Looking for a good woman. Able to clean, cook, sew, catch bait, and clean fish. Must have boat and motor.
((Please send picture of boat and motor))

Your companion NEEDS it, you will be buying it shortly if you don't win the roll.

YOU NEED IT.

Anyone who says otherwise is a crybaby who doesn't want to lose the odd roll. What makes your player more important than my companion? What makes ME more important than YOUR companion? NOTHING AT ALL!!!

Here's a though.. let's say I rolled with a Imperial Agent Sniper, right? But selected "Need" for the pistol because I had an alt character (BH) that could use the pistol. How would you guys feel about that?
