Though slightly concerned with the impact of the cash shop, I am willing to give GW2 a shot, as the siege weapons and WvWvW seem a bit more exciting than yet another run of guarding a door in the voidstar.

So buy some gems in the shop, sell them in game for Coin, exchange the Coin for Influence and bingo buy your guild buffs. Perfect World have a similar system in their F2P games.
Ahh gotcha makes sense. There seems to always be away around the system right? lol

My thoughts.

Well I only played one of the plant people, but with that experience I will say this. Coming from TOR and going back to the fantasy setting was a little wierd. Then going from fighting Swoop Gangs, and Saving prisoners at a starting area in TOR, to killing termites and playing with wolf pups, was just WIERD. Did not like haha.

I did like how changing your weapons combinations changed your skill sets. So wielding two daggers would give you stabby skills, and then Changing to dagger and pistol would give you two skills for the pistol and two dagger/pistol combo skills, and then dual wielding two pistols gave you a bunch of gun skills, all really neat. Liked that alot.

Artistically I dont see the difference between Tor and GW2. Personally I think the Toons in TOR look better. However I only played the Plant people so maybe the other characters look better I dunno. Also the world design feels REALLY cluttered in GW2 I felt really Claustrophobic and lost wandering around, and I dont like their map at all. If your a sandbox MMO player and didnt like TOR's world desing, GW2 is going to drive you INSANE...agian Plant People. Maybe like the Norn Areas were more open or something.

Technical Graphics tho GW2 wins hands down. That game is smooth. No lag, very fluid. No frustration at all in combat or just trying to get around.

Story wise...cant compete with TOR. I skip ALL the cut scenes in GW2 regardless of whether Ive seen them or not, they are BORING!! Granted TOR has some long winded talky scenes, they have equally as many dynamic and cool cutscene moments, by far my favorite is the Warrior on alderaan breaking into the compound and killing that generals boyfriend. AWESOME!! The way GW2 Cutscenes are set up, moments like that are impossible.

GW2 was really hard to pick up for me. Right off the bat in TOR, first time playing I got into the swing of things immediately..probably because it felt familiar from wow. However I knew what to do where to go, good stuff. GW2 I got lost Alot. Like I said REALLY hate the map. I think it took me about 30-40 minutes to get acclimated to the game. Might just be going back to fantasy from Sci-fi, and prolly because I never played a GW game before, but yeah I was going in circles for a minute.

Also while skills are cool, Id really like to know what some of them do....Theres your basic knife skill that switches to an advance skill in a string of combos, and I cant read the tool tip because, well Im in the middle of a fight. However IM sure its listed on an ability pane somewhere.

Another plus for GW2 tho, that last stanbd before you die thing, totally borderlands, and totally cool! Like that alot too.

Overall GW2 not really my cup of tea, Ill play the PVP later, and see how amazing it is or whatever. Too me it would be a really fun f2p game, that I could go to when I got bored or something. Which I think it technically is f2p, but the initial box sale is meh. I personally wouldnt buy it. I can see reasons why people like it, there are some cool things, and IM sure it gets better after I get out into the world more. But I just cant get past the first 10 levels, I just get really bored after awhile doing the same thing. SWTOR has that too, it does, but its Star Wars! I just jump into space for a minute, and Im back!!

No point in having a cash shop if there's nothing in there worth buying, right?

Do more research. Influence is easily gained by doing PVP. . There is a research period required to get those buffs. There is a hard cap on how fast you can spend influence because of the 24 hour (or longer) build time. It also takes a guild to have a keep and to use those buffs. The buffs are pretty negligable.

let me sum this thread up for you.

during swtor beta, and even after it, and even NOW, anyone talking down SWTOR at all was from another mmo and trying to sabotage the game. what you are going to get here, is the flip side of that.

i would bet that most if not all of the overly negative feedback about teh gw2 beta in this thread are from swtor white knights who have not even touched gw2, know nothing about it, and will simply talk rubbish about it while claiming to have first hand knowledge.

its sad really.

Just cancelled my account. Hopefully GW2 PVP is really good. PVP is why I play MMO's and the complete and utter lack of world pvp really sucked in swtor.. keeping the factions separate for most of leveling is lame. end game is a borefest... flashpoints are all boring after you've done them once. No sense of wonderment or amaze when exploring the world because they aren't actual "planets" just flat maps that you switch to...its like a theme park ride. Just something is missing.
Help me Obi Bub Kebubby you're my only hope!

Its amazing how people, like you, who dont want to hear it always ignore the posts that disproves your claim. You are taking second hand information from someone who doesnt know the whole picture and claiming P2win just to make GW2 look bad.

Again.... sorry but GW2 is not P2win.... no matter how much you hope it is.

Oh ad lol @ the guy who uses 20 buttons to play his class. Bahahaha. All the ppl saying gw has 4 or 5 buttons have no clue at all and are just showing themselves to be total and complete Swtor fanboys by attacking another game without knowing even the most basic things about it.

Wait....was that the same person? Can't be....surely...
Yep, same guy.

I bought the game, and I've played the game briefly. My impressions are not set in stone, but they are honest. You obviously have a bone to pick with SWTOR, and your lol'ing doesnt hide your bias. Early plot line couldn't interest me less, unlike the ones on Ord Mantell or Tython.

As far as needing 20 keys, maybe if you learned to play this game before bashing it you'd know what I was talking about. Both 10-key quick bars are filled with actions I use in every fight, and I have hot keys mapped for each. I also have some actions (like adrenal, throw huttball, heroic moment I probably should also map but haven't.). Let me know if you have the attention span, and I can list out for you what they are.

So what would make them feel like actual planets... Just interested. GW2 Is just going to be on world, designed much the same way, each area is a zone. Its more cluttered than TOR in terms of world design. I just wanna know what in an MMO will give you awe and wonderment? Ive never experienced awe and wonderment in an mmo myself. Skyrim does it for me tho, Oblivion too when it first came out.
