Really?

Really? you have to ask? are you a SW:TOR subscriber? Do you like this game? why are you here?

We can all play that game.

That's really very fine talk.. but if they were thinking that way, why would they include a gear treadmill endgame that virtually lacks any story at all? And not update their stories for 7+ months?

Look, I'm trying to stay neutral and objective on the GW2 vs SWTOR debate, but it's plain that many people in this thread simply aren't trying that. It's the typical flame-fest that erupts prior to any new MMO release on any MMO forum ever - the battle of the supporters versus the haters versus the terrified-of-change versus the terrified-that-their-already-weak-community-will-suffer versus the trolls. Very few people in this thread are saying ANYTHING factual, about any game.
Endgame gear grinds are not the way.

GW1 had the exact same issue's. The clunky animations annoyed me a lot and GW2 didn't really do much to improve on it.

The same reason they put in Illum to catch as many MMO players as they could because the game cost an awful lot of money and the fastest way to recoup the funds is to get as many player interested as possible, PvP'er, PvE'er, progression raiders, crafter's, RP'ers etc... whether the content was good enough to retain them is another thing altogether.

Well, you can't make a game with every feature included, and every feature updated regularly, and every feature awesome. If they were really going story-focused .. why haven't we seen behaviour similar to TSW's recent declaration that they're going to release story updates and changes monthly?

No, no. TOR went firmly into trying to steal WoW's audience, not to break or bend the genre. They're offering Bioware's Blackberry as opposed to Blizz's iphone - products that're substantially similar, but very different in quality and usability.

The thing GW2 and TSW get right, regardless of success or failure? They decided to offer something significantly different; they decided not to compete HEAD ON with Blizzard.
Endgame gear grinds are not the way.

It will absolutely hurt SWTOR just not as much as if it were a really good PVE game.

questing in swtor isnt the best its the most boring after you got one lvl 50 its the same damn quests in the same order on an alt, while ill agree lvling that 1st char it was a good story to lvl 50 then it just "ends"

However, after a good five hours playtime, I'm already missing SWTOR. Granted GW2 actually feels like a more modern MMO, their stories for the races are absolutely woeful in comparison to SWTOR. Okay do you want to go into some cave and recover some medicine from some bandits or do you want to infiltrate a notorious crime lord's gang and carefully plant the seeds of doubt in their mind and force them to your side? And don't even get me started on the fact you face some guy three freaking times and each time you worry about what's going to happen.. WHY CANT I KILL HIM???

Still, this aside, I do love the world quests where you can just join in and random events plus the WvW pvp is a LOT of fun and what Illum should have aspired to be.

Regardless, after playing the second coming of Jesus, I've came out of it appreciating SWTOR a lot more and what it actually offers.
Said this many times...i love tor and if tor had World V world or something like it, many people would have stuck with it.

Your in the wrong place then. The stories have more holes than a 100 golf courses. (Don't believe me? Play a Mara, then a Jugg to 50... Kill the same people twice? Betray the same "dead" people twice? Seen any companions on the fleet lately that looks awfully like your own? Welcome to Attack of the Clones part 2, part 3 to follow soon when more gear without dyes are added to make us and the companions look even more alike...

GW2 has the best mmo feature seen yet (imo)... Shared kills/xp/collectables (ore nodes etc.) - You hit a mob and so do 5 others, you all get xp & loot. You mine some ore node, it's still there for your friend, group, everyone else! ...No more kill stealing, no more loot stealing, no more node stealing, no more drama! The way EVERY mmo should have been!
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

I've played in two of the betas. Here's my impressions: I jumped stright into the WvWvW and found it to be a zerg fest. I didn't know where or how to find other players of my own world. When I saw a skirmish icon, by the time I got there I was too late, picked off on the way, or completely destroyed by 40 oppossing players (my server was pitted against Reddit, and they already control all 4 areas of the world, within 5 hours) I couldn't even figure out how to communicate with other folks in my coloir. No one would answer ./map communication. The respawn points were 2-3 mins away from each death, which is not too bad, but it sucked running back so far in my opinion (that's just my opinion). Lastly, I felt like the controls were sluggish. I'm using my mouse to steer and the turning/responsiveness of the game is just off by a fraction of a second...I didn't really notice this till I returned to SWTOR for an EXplosive Conflict Operation where I was constantly out of position/camera turning too far after haing played GW2. I had hoped to get in on the ground level and not be so far behind in PvP as I am now in SWTOR. Looks like all I can hope for is the hard core PVP'ers here leave for GW2....
