Why side with the Empire?

I think with a Jedi sort of class there is a semi requirement which says that you have to be good. Lawful good. Obviosuly you don't HAVE to but there is a sort of ideology that you do.
I play a smuggler though, that allows me to break the rules a bit and not play as a inheritantly good guy. I'm Chaotic Good you could say.

That's all.
I tried to play a Jedi....The way they have the Jedi set up is like a brain washing cultist camp! <(0_0)> Seriously...every chance they could fit it in, you have NPC's repeating the Jedi code....It is ANNOYING

At least the Sith seem normal in a military lifestyle. Sure you had some uber duber masters, but for the most part they are normal people, speciouly if you go the lightside route. I can relate better with my sith then with my Jedi. I don't feel like im being forced into some kind of un-natural mind set.

Personally, I'm playing Imperial because I tossed a coin.

I wanted to play either a Jedi Councilar or a Sith Inquisitor, but I simply couldn't decide on which faction to go to. So, I tossed a coin, and now I'm a Sith Inquisitor.
I guess it's the better faction to be evil in, though. I already decided to be evil after watching Jesse's preview on ****cata - Being evil looked so entertaining. And so far, it mostly is - Though I admit that I'm having some trouble with some of the stuff that I made my character do. Call me a wuss if you want.

To the thread title as a question, my not? The light side is soft and corny and uninteresting from the first 15 levels I played in beta. Without the empire, this game would be a lot less enjoyable.

After 7 years of alliance in WoW I was not going to make the same mistake again.

I am already seeing a large hike in average skill in pugs and getting your poo pushed in in PvP battlegrounds nine times out of ten was a killer, SO much more enjoyable to see tactics and players discussing what to do and how to do it in chat before the match starts.

The years of seeing kids in the chat channel whining and screaming for the alliance faction in wow ruined the experience, I have a friend that rolled Republic and he is telling me all the things I remember when playing alliance in WoW or the Guardians in Rift, this time I have made the right choice and thats to play with the adults. (on the whole of course there still are a few kids on the Empire side, just not in such large numbers.)
Not much different on the Empire. Chat is filled with things about arrows and knees, and my party still doesn't use their self-heal after battles. "Kids" are not side-dependent.

When they designed the Empire for this game, it really felt like they were modeling it more after the Empire we are familiar with in the Galactic Civil War, but then they go and add the Sith Pureblood to the game? What's really the point of even being the Empire at that point? Kind of felt lame to me... we're pro-human tyrants but oh, these red guys? I guess they are the bosses.

At least that's the feeling I get beating up on the Empire... it doesn't really feel like I'm in the Old Republic Era, but the Galactic Civil War. I half expect Darth Vader to show up somewhere.

Also, I didn't roll Empire because it is so painfully obvious that BioWare put more attention to that side that I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction of playing it. And if it was just a tyrannical powerful force, it would even be kind of cool. But slavery, killing off civilians, experimenting on sentient creatures? That kind of stuff just ain't cool no matter how stuffy you think the Jedi code is.

Light side choices felt like they had more impact on the Empire, and that's really the only reason I'd ever roll one, but there's just too much "I have to go along with this because it's the story" that I didn't like.

I did, however, reserve names for a Trooper and Smuggler. I figure that eventually all my Empire characters will hit a wall so I'll just play them. Gonna model them after Firefly characters
