Why side with the Empire?

For me, I enjoyed trooper but wasn't a fan of the big gun the healer version gets, so I tried the BH mirror and was very pleased to see I could still be a good guy despite working for the empire most of the time.

I'm sure a lot of people revel in being truly vicious and evil, as the story allows, but at every turn for teh BH there's an option for compassion ( let the mark go and lie about it) - when it's deserved. I'm nearly at the last rank of light points.

For me a lot of the evil choices would just feel forced and go against my personal instincts. It would just feel like work trying to choose the evil option, especially when it benefits people I'd rather see punished.

I can however see the draw of someone wanting to play with no rules and no repurcussions for their attrocities as a Sith would, but I also didn't like feeling that I was bound and forced to choose answers that went against my intuition on the Republic side as well.

Luckily BH is the perfect fit as you only have yourself and whatever you decide your moral code is to answer to. I find it a lot more freeing than any of the other classes I've tried on either side.

Well I like the story and look of Empire better but now that I a nearing level 30 and have some decent story under my belt I will say this:

The Republic is full of s##t!

They pretend to be so goody goody but in this time frame they are corrupt as hell and are breaking their treaty agreements right and left. They pretend to be all righteous yet play the exact same games as the Empire (ok perhaps with less total death counts ... but not by much as they "kill for xp" just like Empire players lol).

At least with the Empire they don't pretend otherwise. Hell the Empire kills themselves as much as anyone else. Their damn Sith Lords keep backstabbing each other. If the Empire could get their own act together you actually start thinking the universe would be a pretty good place under their watch ... well ok maybe not but the story actually works well in making you actually want to side with them. I played Republic into the teens only and wanted to gag over all their self-righteous BS all the while as they wipe out planets "for the greater good" just like Empire does.

The Empire is: "We'll make you do what we want for we are in control"

The Republic is: "We'll support and give you money to do the things we don't want to be known for"

My Sith Inquisitor is a power hungry, stone cold hearted, hateful, spiteful, sarcastic, would kill anyone to increase her own power, evil, deceitful, murderous ( insert expletive here )

...... I love her
I have a bad feeling about this

My response covers both of these questions. I play Empire for two reasons, the first being the lesser of the two

1. Asthetics. Empire ships look better, IMO, and I like the darker color schemes. Also, I think Empire has the better companions

2. The Old Republic (not the game, the group) is just as bad, IMO, as the Empire. The Jedi want to run everything, get sent out on bullying missions and scare the crap out of everyone just as much as the Sith. They do it in a way that comes off as 'good', but if you boil it down to the bare-bones facts of what they do I see little difference between the two

The difference for me that made me choose Empire is that the Sith will tell you they're going to kill you and encourage education. The Jedi are just as political but play the 'nice guy' and they tell you what you can and cannot learn. If they feel I lack the willpower to maintain my own moral code while studying the Dark Side of the Force then they must not think much of me.

If you played Everquest, think of it as Freeport vs. Neriak. The Freeport guards seemed all goody-goody on the surface, but were in fact more corrupt and 'evil' than the Dark Elves in Neriak once you peeled away the facade

There's nothing psychopathic about the Empire as a whole. It has psychopathic members, for sure, but so does Republic.

The Sith is not about evil, it's about a different way of looking at the universe. It is the belief that strength comes from strength. The idea that adversity and conflict breeds improvement. It is the embrace of that which makes us human, our animal nature tempered by our intellect but not ignored as it is in the Republic.

We are predators, the ways of the Sith understands this and revels in it.

It's an expansion of the idea "It's better to reign in hell than serve in heaven." or, as I quoted above "It's better to live one day as a lion than a lifetime as a sheep."

It's better to burn out than the fade away.

This is the essence of the Empire.

It is a celebration of life unleashed.

It's about getting wet, getting dirty, getting in there.

It is no more evil than when a wolf tears out the throat of it's prey. It's just nature.
