I am not here to fight but to point out in my opinion what is wrong with this class. There are two things that come to mind when I play this class.

1. Survivability

and

2. Mobility

Until these two issues are fixed, this class will remain a unwanted class in rated PvP groups. We need better CCs or better Armor Mitigation to counter attacks.

I know my class well so I have posted a couple of pics to shut up those nay sayers on my ability to play.

Here is some more proof on why I think this class will lack in PvP. The picture I have provided is proof that if it wasn't for Mobility/survivability restrictions of this class. It will never reach its full potential until these issues are addressed.

I want people to take a fine look at the stats in this pick. The guy above me is a Powertech, now take a look at his DPS vs mine along with death ratio. Also look at other stats of people in this game. There is an issue with Merc's and its not DPS its the survivability rate along with Mobility restrictions of this class.

Now.... before I say anything else, you do realize that the two pics you showed us your dps was one of the lowest in the game, right?

Yes I relize that but I also play defender a lot because I don't like to leave doors/turrets/bunkers open. I can defend pretty well by using LOS but did you take a look at my other stats in game. I am pretty versitile and switch cylinders for healing if the team is lacking a healer in that area.

I don't play dps commando/merc but I'm not going to sit here and post that they're good classes just to keep my own classes above theirs *looks at 99 % of the forum go'ers*

They're gimped and I laugh at them on my sorc. That's how bad they are.

I'm currently leveling a sage and whenever I see a low level dps commando on my team I'll advise them to re-roll before they've invested too much time.

I agree they are gimped and its because of mobility/survivablity. I can reach 350K DPS because I have done it before using Pyro and Arsenal Spec and I probably could reach 400k plus if it wasn't for what I think is wrong with the class. Pyro is great at laying DOTs down but some of there abilities also ground them like Aresenal does.

I believe this class would do better if they weren't so restricted to the ground and could take a punch. Our healing doesn't make up for hits we take when targeted.

Most Merc's like myself utilize LOS to survive but than it becomes a CAT and mouse game with other classes and we are the mouse.

C'mon we all know the truth. Merc/Commando dps is the worst dps subclass in the game. Period. What's more it isn't the case of "they do X better than PT/Vanguard and Y worse, with Y happening more often". They do EVERYTHING worse than PT/Vanguard in PvP.

Worse dps. Check.
Worse burst dps. Check.
Worse defending teammates. Check - no taunt, no AoE taunt.
Worse interrrupting. Check.
Worse AoE. Check.
Worse Huttball utility. Check.

EVERYTHING that the PT/Vanguard does, the Merc/Commando does worse. What does the Merc/Commando do better? Stand in a corner and self heal when you are at <10% health, which *MAYBE* allows the Merc/Commando to cut down the length of his Rejuve/Reload by 0.5 seconds over what it takes for a PT/Vanguard. Pathetic.

I just posted something like this the other day. I asked if I could have a response from a Dev about the serious problems with this class. Now I my Commando was my first toon. I geared him up got him to a pretty high rank and then dropped him after 1.2. I went back to him just a bit ago because my guild is running Repubs again. Now I have to say Assult is the only viable tree left for this class. The medic tree is a joke. Not only are we turret healers we get little to no cc, we have one big heal with a 1.6 second cast a small heal with a stupid cool down a instant heal with a retarded cooldown and our tride and true RETARD BomB that does **** aoe healing. Now seeing that I have all healing gear I cant even begin to tell you how bad the dps is. I dont even get to play in the other trees because the gear is just a stupid *** grind

So anyway dont expect much other than a bunch of trolls saying that this class is totally fine. Also dont expect any dev to give a damn about our concerns. I am pretty sure they dont even play the class.

The gap between PT Pyro and Merc Pyro is very large. They need to take something useful away from the PT and hand it to the merc class. I mean mercs can be succesful just bring a pyro PT with you and have him kill people for you

Pretty much my feeling as well.

The problem is that all our abilities in Gunnery basically make us a turrent class, and for that matter any semi-sustained burst in Assault is also going to require you to sit still for awhile. But we don't have the tools to be effective as a turrent class. Sniper's are meant to engage at range and have abilities that make sure their targets stay at range. Commandos have nothing.

I've been saying it in other threads but if they'd just give commandos the Hold the Line abiltity from the Vanguard tactics tree that would go a long way to help them reach their damage potential.

Beyond that it's just a matter of pure utility. You get one knockback (two if you spec into it), which doesn't knock any melee far enough back to make much of a difference. We don't get anything that helps make us better ball carriers, or even decent support for ball carriers. We get no CC beyond a 2.5 second sleep that actually heals you and the standard 4sec stun that everyone gets in one form or another.

But hey we get heals so that totally makes up for the lack of other utility!
In update 2.9 the game will simply uninstall itself for you.
