In WoW, when I got really bored and sick of the stupidity people would come up with for characters...I would search zone by zone for any name violating the naming policy.

When I choose a name I want it for a specific reason, a concept, an idea, the underlying meaning it may have in relation to another character of mine....

I'm pretty sure if anyone walked into a new town and was told they can no longer have their name... they wouldn't be very happy with it either.
I agree, when I played "Pirates of the Burning Sea" if there was a player by the name of John Smith there could be another by the name of Jonah Smith or John Doe.

We were allowed to have unlimited names just as long as there wasn't two identical matching names, it wasn't the greatest MMO out there, but they had the best naming policy from what I've seen in any MMO, this is the kind of system that Bioware should borrow from.

In tabula rasa, you choose a name when first creating a character. It was common to all your character. Like legacy name. For example Doe. It was unique. Then, you choose a name for each character. You were able to choose non unique name. For example John. Then, your name appeared as John Doe.
Worked fine.

Wouldn't transfers a be problem in tabula rasa like in SWTOR? I do know in POTBS if you did transfer it was unlikely someone had your name because you could be Billy Jack Bishop or Billy Bones while another player possessed the name Billy Jones or even Jack Bishop and yet all names would be playable on the same server.

None, I consider the legacy system to be a contrived stunt to whip people into playing all the classes and such, so we'll forget the lack of overall content. Every time they hook something else to it, I actually dial back on leveling. I just don't play this game to be told how I should play, and that I must do this or that to get the "most" out of it.

So, no lost names. Seemed like a panic move to try to get folks to forget the games shortcomings.

Still the "Lost Names" issue is a major problem ever since the transfers took place, it's a major mechanical flaw that needs to be addressed if not fixed, it would seem many player stopped playing because of it.

I stand to lose one when my 1 character on LoL gets forced to move to ToFN.

Annoyingly if I was allowed to move it to the server on which the rest of my characters are I wouldn't lose it. That's really bloody frustrating. I'll just have to never log into the character until they allow transfers to other servers.

Really unfortunate, bioware needs to fix this obviously there is a big major problem with the naming policy mechanics especially after the forced transfers we were all left to make a choice, rename or unsub, real crappy deal.

That would've been a great idea to do here and just give us Legacy level 1 at character creation to serve as the personal identifier for all of our toons on that server, further defined individually with a first name of our choice (which could have then been the same as other's first names). A day late and a dollar short, but brilliant.

Funny. I thought the implementation of the Cartel Store was the Rise of the Hutt Cartel. And no, I do not like what that story has to offer. I keep getting screwed in it.
