Spoiler

I have noticed over the past couple of days my latency with the server is very bad. I have a 20mb down/5mb up service, with a modem/router in one. I have 3 wireless devices connected, and my machine which is wired. I am connected to it using a 1gig ethernet cable. This seems to happen every 1-3 minutes and makes the game play very frustrating. I have an Alienware macine, 7 months old, and I run the game on low to very low settings to help with these spikes, and that doesn't help with issue. Please help me fix this.

You need to wait for Bio Ware fixing it in theirs end, not our fault, too many ppl experiance this issue to just blame us and ours PCs and internet connections. Time to move your arses BW, no more excuses.

I was getting horrible problems with SWTOR aswell, the video would constantly lock up, really chattery..it apeared to be latency. It wasn't. I upgraded my PC from a quad core 2.2 ghz processor with 4 gigs of ddr2 and a Nvidia 9800GTX+ videocard to some newer end stuff. I now have:

Intel 3770K Ivybridge 3.5ghz
Asus Sabertooth Z77 MB
16gb 2133mhz ram
still using a 9800gtx+ videocard because my gtx670 hasn't arrived yet.

The difference is unimaginable. I get 100FPS in fleet with almost 300 people there and way over that on planets and flashpoints. I think its the ram you guys. I would say you need at least 8gb of ram to run star wars well. Thats just a guess on my part because i upgraded almost everything at once, but to go from getting 15fps to over 100 without upgradeing GPU suggests to me that 4gigs of ram was not cutting it.

Greetings All,

On performance and lag:
  • An easy step to try to improve lag and performance is to power off your router for thirty seconds and then back on again.
  • A wired connection is much more reliable than a wireless one.
  • For users with multiple devices on their connection, try disconnecting all but the one device used to connect to the game to see if this has any effect.
  • Having a rocking CPU as mrjesterman has will turbocharge the games' performance.
  • It may also be worthwhile doing the following: Uninstall video driver, clean boot and then clean driver install:

Depending on the graphics card the uninstall can differ:

NVidia recommend completing this through Control Panel/add/remove programs.
    1) Go into your Control Panel
    2) Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon
    3) Select the NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers from the list of programs.
    4) Click Change/Remove or Add/Remove button.
    5) Confirm with Windows that you wish to continue with the uninstall

    Nvidia link:http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_13955.html

ATI on the other hand recommend removing drivers via their own catalyst:
    1) Click on Start
    2) Open the Control Panel
    3) Select Programs and Features
    4) Select ATI Catalyst Install Manager
    5) Click on Change

    AMD link:http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...csDrivers.aspx

Instructions on performing a clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

When installing an Nvidia driver please choose the advanced install and tick the box for "perform a clean installation".
When installing AMD drivers, just perform the installation as normal after the clean boot.

Please post again to let us know if any of these steps increase your game performance.

Thank you for playing Star Wars: The Old Republic

Not to bust your balls here but those are solutions to a PC that is having trouble running the game not the issue where it is the entire instance that is sucking wind. We are talking about entire parties, OPs groups and both teams in a WZ getting lagged at the EXACT same moment. I know not every single time I lag/stutter it is server lag but when the people I am on VOIP with or a instance wide chat all light up with "LAG" at the same moment I am fairly certain its not just me. O and during these massive lag spikes not ONCE has VOIP showed any symptoms of latency. Beyond that I have not had a single issue while playing other online games in this time frame. So fairly certain its not my connection.

I contacted ingame support as well and even got to speak to someone on the live chat. They said they were sending me an in game mail with the steps to take. As you can imagine I was skeptical about what I could do on my end to fix server side lag...but I played along after expressing my doubts. To no surprise the fixes suggested did nothing to fix the issue. The fix provided wasn't even close to the symptoms.

My guild stopped raiding due to the lag, it wasn't fun. Now people are not logging in because WZs are so laggy as well. Why play this game when there are literally hundreds of other games to play with out issues such as this?

This is TRUTH.

When entire parties Lag at same time, it is SERVER side, not individual machines, ISPs, etc.

As soon as BW recognizes this, we will be that much closer to a fix.
