The only thing we do is technically rent the game, if we stop paying we can no longer play and the account is put into storage for a time that we wish to resume payment.
No, the person is wrong. According to the ruling we own the copy of the client that we bought as discs or downloaded digitally and we can legally sell that copy to someone else. Because SWTOR has a subscription rather than an unlimited time license the ruling does not apply when it comes to selling our account, as it stands that still belongs to EA.

But if you bought Mass Effect 3 on digital download for example, this ruling confirms that you can sell your copy just as if you bought the game in a shop.

Nope I am absolutely correct and you've stated nothing to say otherwise.
What's on their servers belongs to EA.
Looking for a good woman. Able to clean, cook, sew, catch bait, and clean fish. Must have boat and motor.
((Please send picture of boat and motor))

You people saying this person and that person is wrong is funny, you are all saying the exact same thing.

Correct in that the servers belong to EA, but some of the pixels are on our PCs, that bit we own.

Under the EU ruling people in the EU do own the client, whether it was bought via disc or digital download.

So yes, you are indeed wrong.

No you don't own the client. You may have resale rights but you certainly do not own it, you may own the plastic disc or a registration code but you certainly do not own the client. All software is still the property of EA and is protected by copyright.

You own your copy of it (or at least that is what the EU is trying to enforce). That's not to say you own the copyright of it, or the distribution rights of it (out side your own copy), because that's a completely different thing.
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

I don't see the big issue for a MMO with subs anyways. If the game cannot be resold when someone stops playing, they also stop paying a sub. Someone might try it out if they get the game cheap and then presto, they pay a sub again.

Personally, I would be careful because you don't want to accidentally leave cc details or anything like that on there.

The guy I was quoting was arguing that you own the "pixels" in the client, I was rectifying his assumption.

Europe will probably have even less game available now, just a big grats ;p
And lose 1/3rd of it's prospective market? that's company suicide.

You can sell it, but the Product Registration Code that is tied to your account, won't be removed. So I don't see the point of selling your copy.
