I figured something out

Ok...the reason why a lot of people aren't in love with this game despite it being a pretty good mmorpg are these:

The "endgame" feeling with your character feeling

This game doesn't have it that much. LOTS of people LOVE sticking with that...one character they have molded in THEIR image and don't want to start new again. Yes, a lot of people make alts but I think that is because they are kind of forced to in a way. Especially this game. People like to...completely live out their dream as their own person in the game. They worked allllll those hours, days, months for that character and they do NOT want to simply...flush it away because a game doesn't have sufficient things to do when you are maxed out for the moment. You know what I think of when I think of endgame is this game? I think of what it COULD BE. Just think...when you are max level and have full everything and titles...as a Trooper you could go back to Ord Mantell and be part of a new squad where new players to the game could report to you for rewards or something. Or you could be the new squad leader. Or just imagine you as the Savior of the council at the end of the Consular or Jedi Knight story can go back to Tython, BECOME one of the council, become a Jedi Master and be able to teach npcs or players. Or if you were a Bounty Hunter, just imagine if you won the great hunt being able to come back to Hutta and everyone talks in the background about you and you go to the people who didn't believe in you to prove yourself you did it. Then you can teach other Bounty Hunters things. That would be amazing..just blow every game outta the water amazing. The game would NEVER end or be put on hold even at max level cap.

There is NO player housing

Yes...I know you tried with the ships BioWare. But if you truly want us to feel like it is our "home" then you NEED to put accessories/furniture on the GTN for us to buy and make our ship fully customizable. Different colors, different beds, different paint, different chairs etc. Right now players do NOT I repeat NOT feel like they are "home" in their ships. When I am starting a new bounty hunter and get my ship there is nothing...special about it. I feel like I have been assigned ship number 832,405 and to bring it back at the end of the game type of feel. There should be something like...you should be able to choose where you want to have your home. For example, if you wanted to be like Obi Wan Kenobi in episode IV and live out alll the way on the outskirts of Tatooine, why shouldn't you be able to? If you were a Bounty Hunter and wanted to live among the carnage of Belsavis so you can constantly be training your trigger finger, why shouldn't you be able to? I'm not asking for apartments on all these planets. Just a system in place where YOU the player can choose where your home is. The ship is just our home away from home. Player housing is one of those things ESPECIALLY in Star Wars you NEED to have for players to ultimately ..."connect"...in the game world. You have that I guarantee you you will make some VERY happy and loyal customers.

The Sandbox

Listen...this has been a giant discussion since mmos have come up. Some games work for it, some games don't. Star Wars: The Old Republic is a game designed for sandbox. World of Warcraft is not you want to know why? World of Warcraft isn't a giant world extravaganza that changed how people view the universe and the world/each other. How people viewed things all over the world. Changed what people believed in. Made people have thoughts about being a Jedi, Sith, Bounty Hunter. Being able to do what they wanted anywhere...at any time in their OWN star wars fantasy.
It wasn't all about action. It was the ...feeling...you got of doing what you wanted KNOWING you were in the Star Wars galaxy. What if somebody doesn't want to be a Trooper or combat unit? They don't have a choice in this game. What if some people DID actually SQUEE out in glee when you did that april fools joke about the droid class taking care of the ship (cause I can assure you...people did) and they were mad when it wasn't real. You want to know why? It was an announcement of FINALLY something we could kick back...relax..and just...do w/e we wanted knowing we were in the Star Wars universe. If I want to be a medic...I should be able to be one. If I wanted to be a moisture evaporator farmer where people can come to me for combat upgrades or something, I should be able to be one. Listen...sandbox is what Star Wars fans want. I understand you want to be as big as World of Warcraft but wouldn't you rather have customers happy in glee every time they login living their fantasies out than to keep going for more subscribers and going for the big guns? Wouldn't you rather have people that LOVE your game and have the majority that say OMG PLAY SWTOR than ...eh..its alright, it's basically wow in space. As a Star Wars fan, I am appalled at the fact people compare this game to World of Warcraft because WoW didn't change things in the world. Star Wars changed the world...and you had a chance to change the world with this game. Why follow another concept? Just because it's "proven"? Whatever happened to the Ray Myzurka I USED to know. The one that said, "we don't really care if those other games have a proven concept, we make our games to aspire to be better and be more different than the others no matter if they make a big splash or not." What happened to that? Star Wars fans care about ONE thing, SANDBOX! To do what they want, when they want in their Star Wars galaxy

Not being able to roleplay properly

There are no chat bubbles, no sitting in chairs, benches, couches, beds. No pazaak you could be playing while having a drink at a Cantina talking about your travels. There are no voiced emotes, no proper roleplay methods. I'm used to roleplaying with a chat bubble on top of my head and voiced emotes and I like my character to SPEAK when I "lol" or "boo" or "no" stuff like that, and many others to. Having to look at the top left corner all the time gets annoying. It doesn't encourage roleplay. People like looking at the center of the screen. not corners. You need to do something for roleplayers.

Future of Star Wars: The Old Republic

This game, I believe will continue to keep going and chugging along. But...they need to start getting more sandbox elements in it to fit the ....Star Wars feel of it. It has the music, stories, settings, planets, they just need to open them up. Let players explore what THEY want not what BIOWARE wants them to explore. You should encourage being able to find a cave, ceramic place, or something you can call a home and that would be your permanent home on that character. They need to encourage roleplaying in a Star Wars galaxy. They need to let the players decide more content, activities, things to do etc instead of them deciding everything. I LOVE the choice aspect of this game and voice content, but you need to make sure our gameplay experience is also up to the bioware quality of the story content. You always wanted your players feel the best they are while playing your games. I remember your comments over the years Ray, don't fall back on that dream of giving the players what they want. You have a HUGE opportunity with Star Wars: The Old Republic. Don't screw it up. As a GIANT Star Wars fan, and I am sure others can vouche for me to, we want a sandbox to live out what we saw when we were kids. This isn't World of Warcraft...this is Star Wars. Star Wars started in 1977....some people DREAMED of playing with others online in virtual worlds with their friends. Why are you cutting us off by making things linear? You NEED to not make things so linear in the future. That is why people are complaining and want to leave and saying the comments about this being a great game but they just don't have the "feeling" with it. I have even had that some nights. You need to listen to this BioWare. Keep up the work on the game and I am optimistic that in the future, you will take more players into consideration when you are thinking of ways to make not just an online game, but that "feeling" of a galaxy bound together as one. BioWare...be the force. Don't lose the force. Learn how to use it once again. In the words of Obi Wan Kenobi "the force is an energy field thats in all living things, binds the galaxy together". BioWare...learn to use the force to make us, the players more bound together.

May The Force Be With You all
Always be who you are, not what the galaxy wants you to be

hold on,lemme find my 22 year old nerd glasses and ill see if i can translate this....

TL;DR translation of op`s post

1.we need to be able to work for ultimate power

yup...the game is basically too dang easy, everyone can make a sith warrior, sith inquisitor, and be on the dark council

2.

like i illustrated in a post in suggestion box some time ago.....why cant i moisture farm on a desert planet to make money?why cant i tame beasts on onderon and sell them for a profit?why cant i take rare items and resources from one planet,go to the other end of the galaxy, and sell those for a profit?

we also need actual fashion...and fashion vendors

3.horrible economy,we need a better one

sides from tiny blips caused by new gear once every millenium...there is no super rare thing to hold up the currency...the currency ingame is weak because its not backed by something,id suggest rare crystals,a system for farming them, and then selling them

This^ My character wants a break from all the killing, he just once to settle down and buy a building and start a business on Coruscant. Everything you can do in this game involves killing, no racing, gambling or regular jobs.
Date Joined: March 2009 - Date unsubbed: 9/18/2012
It's been real but the game just wasn't worth the sub for me anymore.

you know i think this game could seriously benefit if bioware purchased rights on the cheap to the source code for several no longer existing games....there is one called freelancer, where im sure the source code in it could be imported into star wars, fixed up,and used to add the free form space stuff we all need

Want an economy? Get rid of all vendors. Make players craftskill mean something, right now it's easier to just buy stuff with comms. Look at artifice, even if you lvl it as fast as you lvl yourself, all the products are irrelevant after the next quest because of the reward, or the stuff you buy with comms.

Let us be the only vendors. Or let us make better stuff that isn't sold anywhere else.

I not only read the entire OP but also *agree* with it 100% .

Unfortunately, 'we' are in the perceived minority.

To all those who didn't read and/or disagree: BioWare was warned about all this in early Beta, but they wanted it their way (aka EA's way) or no way (instead of a true balance of sandbox & theme-park) , consequently they and those of you who are content with this potentially good but ultimately squandered opportunity of a game will hopefully realize when it's FREE-TO-PLAY?

That's what happens when you cater to the "masses" too much and dumb-down your game for the lowest-common-denominators. Servers get merged, subscriptions get lost, industry respect gets diminished.

Oh well, there's always Star Wars 1313 and maybe SWG-2 someday.

At least BioWare/EA made a profit though...right? umm...right?
Never tell me the odds!
